Customer Reviews
Nice Surprises...
Just got this...the two previously unreleased tracks on this cd are quite nice. i'm surprised that there's material of this quality left unreleased. "blue window" is an extended original blues with nice organ and horns, both of which were rare in Hendrix recordings. it's a long jam that vacillates between sounding impromptu and surprisingly well arranged...clearly everyone was listening very closely to each other and/or it's the final take of many attempts at this song. "Georgia Blues" features very fine traditional blues guitar by Hendrix and a strong vocal by Lonnie Youngblood...surprisingly it stems from 1969 and not from his years of session work prior to starting to sing lead himself.
overall this is a serious, deep, long and slow blues album with an informal feel...6 of the 10 tracks are seven minutes or longer, some of them well over ten minutes long. sound quality is excellent, although slightly rough on "blue window"...
highly recommended!
If you don't have the Box Set
If you don't have the Box Set I would get this if only for 'Country Blues'. I thought the family had released all of the important recordings by the Master, but this is one someone denied us we now can study. I am very happy to hear these new versions of his standards. 'Georgia Blues' is a great workout with Lonnie Youngblood I didn't know existed. I could go on but seriously if you are a Hendrix fan, get this CD & be refreshed.
Yet another compilation
Experience Hendrix could have at least found some alternative takes or more un-released tracks to put on this CD.
We still have not got "Things I used to do" or "I got 5 Dollars in my pocket" two great Hendrix blues tracks known to be in the archives at Experience Hendrix.
The 2 tracks that are un-released however are are of some intrest and therefore if you are a fan then this CD is a must.
Let's see what is to come.....
