Great Movie!
I was first introduced to this movie about 5 years ago, while I was living in France. Since I returned to the States, I have been on a constant lookout for its release! Finally, it has arrived! This is a great film. Lots of laughs. Lots of great stars! Must add that the strutting scene on the beach is my favorite. This is a great film for Jacques Brel fans or people who enjoy a good laugh.
It's about time!
This DVD has been available in Europe for quite some time. Nice transfer. Good, clean family fun (although one scene does depict a convention of prostitutes). Keep your eyes peeled for "L'emmerdeur," released as "A Pain in the Ass" on VHS in the US. It's an even better showcase of Jacques Brel and Lino Ventura. I don't think it's on DVD even in Europe, though.
A Lelouch Classic!
I remember seeing this moving on french TV in 1978 when I lived in France. I saw the movie with my mother and aunt. We laughed so hard, we were in stiches. The movie is funny and wittie and captures you attention from start to finish. Seeing again on DVD was a real joy (it was doubly funny seeing that the South American revolitionary leader looking like one of my best friends here in town). Lelouch has succeeded to bring stars like Brel, Hallyday, and Ventura together. The cast plays well together. I loved the scene when they bring all kinds of idioligists to explain what they think matters in life.
I think this movie is a Lelouch classic!
