Finally! Another Long Vaulted Treasure Re-Emerges5
This is one of the last two Verve recordings by Blossom Dearie that have been lanquishing in the Verve vaults for way too long, and it's so good to see that it is once again available!! This is the most intimate album that Blossom recorded during her Verve years. The stand-out track on the recording is definitely 'Someone to Watch Over Me' which Blossom approaches as if she is writing the very words into her diary or whispering them into a prayer locket. Other outstanding songs are 'You Fascinate Me So', 'It's Too Good to Talk About Now', and 'You've Got Something I Want'. Now the good people at Verve need only release "Soubrette Sings Hit Broadway Songs" (and any miscellaneous alternate takes and studio chatter they might have lying around in the vaults) and Ms. Blossom's Verve years will all be available.

A Beauty! This Little Jazz Bird is one of a kind!5
If you already are a fan of hers, than I promise you, this one is a no brainer. For those of you who enjoy such great jazz vocalists as Ella, Sarah, Billie, Carmen, Anita, Dinah, et al... then make room on your CD or record shelf for Blossom Dearie. Her voice is so unique, so appealing, so tranquil, it's the perfect music to listen to on a peaceful Sunday morning or perhaps in the late evening when the sun is going down and you've got your worries set aside for the day. And if you can't set aside all of the stress and strain of daily life, than this album, could be your remedy.

Blossom is not only known for her lovely, one-of-a-kind voice, but she also plays the piano beautifully as well, something in which she takes great pride in. According to Ms. Dearie, "...it's my piano that the musicians - the In group - like", and while that may be true, there is no denying how truly beguiling that voice of hers is. Whether she lilts in English or French it's all good folks!

The legendary Ray Brown (bass), Bobby Thigpen (drums) and Kenny Burrell (guitar) accompany Blossom on this one, and as always, they don't disappoint. Also, Bobby Jaspar (flute) joins in on the three songs she sings in French and really adds that extra kick, making them all the more enjoyable. I especially enjoyed his performance on the song "Boum". There is not one song on this CD that is a let down. My personal favorites are "Hello Love", "Gentleman Friend", "Boum", "Someone To Watch Over Me", ah hell, what am I talking about, all the songs are great!

I can't recommend this one enough!

Blossom is great. The song selection, not as much.4
I was going to give this album three stars, but I saw the other two reviews and wondered, 'Could I perhaps be wrong???' So I'll grant it four stars which is probably over-generous. Honestly, the last two cuts are great. The rest of the songs didn't make me want to come back for more. Blossom gives them as good a performance as they could be given. That's not the point. The songs themselves seem kind of... well, ordinary. Your mileage may vary. I think I could safely say, though, that if you are new to Blossom Dearie, this album probably would not be the best representation of her art.
