Welcome the New King of Smooth Jazz!
What---5 stars is all I can give? I am still having a hard time trying to decide which is my favorite tack...."Just Come On In" just wraps itself around you with such a loving groove you WANT to just come on in. You can see Nick knows how to name songs as well. "High Flyin'" is a contender...it captures you just the way a sky writer makes you look up, you can't help it! Then there is "Because you love me" created with such delicate layers I'm thinking he may be a pastry chef as well as a brillant musician. But then there is "From the Wes Side". This track wakes me up from a sound sleep in the morning because it's ribboning around in my mind like some mild intoxicant that has never left my body. HOW does he do that? How does he manage to take all simple things you know and are familiar with and make them all sound new? I'm convinced he is not only a musical wizard but that he has explored new avenues only gifted people can find. He sparkles so much, I could easily say he is the brightest star in my sky. As a program and music director for 14 years now, with a small collection of about 3000 cds to my name, I can say I recognize royalty when I hear it. The only thing I would change about the cd is to add a few songs of himself singing. Until he makes another new cd, I'll have to console myself with listening to his other disks to have that wish granted. "The Seduction", which came out in 1999, is always in my 5 tray cd player.
Superb!
This is one of my favorite smooth jazz guitar players. Next to Norman Brown, Peter White and some others, this guy rocks! This is a must for smooth jazz listeners, you won't be disappointed at all!
Quality music in a sea of trashy pop, rap, & country....
Nick is clearly one of the hottest up-and-coming stars in the world of smooth jazz, and by all accounts a terrific young man. His music epitomizes everything that's great about smooth jazz......it's optimistic yet down-to-earth, polished yet streewise, and at the end of the day it holds you and kisses you gently in the night. Just TRY to stop listening to "It's Been Too Long;" if you listen to it once, you have to listen to it at least 6 more times; it's THAT good. In a music world dominated with trashy pop, mind-numbing rap, and hackneyed cheesy country, it's refreshing to know that quality music exists out there, somewhere. You've just got to look a little harder. When you do, Nick Colionne is who you will find.
There are not too many artists I would pay to see live. In Nick's case, I would make an exception. This guy is simply dynamite.
