The great bluesmen are almost all gone now, which is reason enough to celebrate this performance by B.B. King. King's guitar playing and singing no longer burn with the fire he displayed on, say, the immortal Live at the Regal album (after all, he was nearly 78 when this 83-minute show was recorded in New York for A&E in June 2003), but the man hasn't lost his touch--and neither has Jeff Beck, who joins him for three tunes. Beck, who continues to play with remarkable invention and dexterity, may even upstage the master--but he's doing it with licks he learned from B.B. himself. The repertoire, as expected when folks (including Willie Nelson and Tony Bennett) are calling up and asking for their favorites, is filled with King classics ("The Thrill Is Gone," "Sweet Little Angel," "Let the Good Times Roll"), as well as a couple from his '03 album, Reflections. --Sam Graham

Satisfying Hour Of Blues5
This particular show was part of a series presented by the A&E Network where a singer was featured, they take phone calls for requests between songs and the emcee handles that and a short interview here and there.

The best feature about having this on DVD is that you can skip all the talking and go directly to the next chapter each time where each song begins. The music is good, too. B.B. King's voice is getting a bit raspy after all these years but his guitar playing is still excellent and I liked the selection of songs on this disc. Most of them are entertaining, even the slower ones.

The concert really takes off when Jeff Beck enters for a few numbers with B.B. Beck shows a great deal of guitar virtuosity and is fun to watch and the songs are very up tempo.

All in all, a satisfying hour-plus of good blues music that should put you in a good mood. Just skip all the talk.

Wonderful! and then some.5
Of course, I am biased, I am a huge BB King fan. This DVD has incredible performances, great interviews, everything a King fan will enjoy. If you aren't a BB King fan (if there is such a thing) this will make you into one.

B.B. KING - Live by Request5
B.B.KING live by request - is something not for B.B. fans only. If someone is addicted to blues, this is one you should not miss. It offers a wide range of B.B. songs and is worth to spend the money. It will give you hours of audial delecation. The tracks with Jeff Beck are terrific. Buy it and enjoy it.
