Editorial Reviews

From the Manufacturer
Visioneer wrote the book on ease-of-use. The revolutionary OneTouch technology simplifies the way people use a scanner. The OneTouch buttons are pre-configured for common scanning tasks so you get great results within minutes of opening the box. Button settings can be customized to unleash even more power for advanced users. The Visioneer OneTouch 7300 USB accommodates scanning thicker books with its special hinged lid. Its USB Bus Powered Design means no cumbersome power supply cord is needed and its ultra-slim design allows it to fit just about anywhere. The OneTouch 7300 USB is fully compatible with all USB ports including USB 1.1.

Features and Benefits:

  • Superb Image Quality. 48-bit internal color capability recognizes over 281 trillion colors. 48-bit scanners capture more detail in the shadow and highlight areas of an image than their 42-bit predecessors, so you'll get brighter yellows, richer reds, cooler blues, and everything between.
  • Specialized Lid Hinge. Allows you to scan thicker books, magazines and 3D objects than other non-hinged scanners and ultra-slim design means it can fit just about anywhere.
  • USB Bus Powered. No power supply cable needed. Just connect the USB cable to your PC and it functions as the scanner's power supply providing connectivity and power in one cable.
  • Easy to Use. Just press a OneTouch button to scan and send an image to the destination of your choice. While intelligent default button settings give perfect results on common scanning tasks, the OneTouch preferences utility makes it simple to customize the buttons.
Award-winning Software
  • ScanSoft PaperPort. The world's best-selling document and image management application creates thumbnails of everything you scan allowing easy filing in color-coded folders. ScanSoft's TextBridge Optical Character Recognition engine is built-in to PaperPort so you can easily use the scanner's OCR button to scan printed text directly into your word processor where it is fully editable.
  • PhotoImpression. ArcSoft PhotoImpression offers the perfect combination of power and simplicity so you can do more with your photos. From quick corrections to creative editing, you can easily achieve high quality results. Whether you scan traditional photos, slides or negatives, PhotoImpression makes digital imaging a breeze.
Turn your PC and printer into a copy machine. Place a document on the glass, press the copy/print button and Visioneer's OneTouch technology scans and sends the image to your printer for a crisp black and white copy.

Scan images to almost any application. Any application that ScanSoft PaperPort has a link to will appear in the destination list giving you unprecedented flexibility for using this button. Here are some recommended uses:

  • Send images to your favorite photo editing application
  • Scan business cards into your favorite card scanning software*
  • Scan documents to your fax software and send them over your fax modem*
  • Scan photos into Microsoft Office* applications such as PowerPoint* or Publisher*
* Requires additional software not included in this box.

Eliminate tedious retyping of documents. The OCR button scans typed or printed documents and sends them to PaperPort‘s built-in TextBridge OCR engine, which automatically converts them into editable documents and sends them to your word processor. With OneTouch and TextBridge OCR, you'll never have to retype a text document again.

Stay connected with family and friends. Place a photo on the glass, press the email button and Visioneer's AutoScan technology takes over. OneTouch automatically finds the edges of your picture, performs a high resolution scan then launches your MAPI compliant email application and attaches the image to a new message.

Create a paperless office. The scan button sends documents or images to the PaperPort desktop where you can drag them into folders you create according to your organizational needs. PaperPort is the perfect application for archiving your home or business records. For extra peace of mind, copy your scanned records to removable media such as a Zip disk or CDR disk for storage in a safe place.

PaperPort automatically links to many popular applications. Just drag and drop a scanned image or document on the link of your choice to launch the application and put your images to work. PaperPort even links to your printers and to most email and fax applications.

Not a scanner for my needs...2
Have owned 4 flatbed scanners up til now, 3 of which were visioneers. I use these scanners for archiving books and magazines. The 7300 good features: small, slim design. Easy to use for scanning books and magazines. USB powered. THE BAD:I scan all my images at 300 dpi and 8.5 x 11 inches. The 7300 took over 60 seconds to scan a color page (grayscale is about 25 seconds). In contrast, my previous scanner, a visioneer 9320, did a color page in 25 seconds. Also, it saves everything in .max format (in its paperport software), a format only paperport can use. You can convert it into jpeg format but that is just an extra step to do. I use adobe elements to edit the scan and it doesn't recognize the .max format so every scan has to be converted. So I sit a press the enter key = to the number of scans I made. It's operation was quiet except for an annoying squeaking and popping sounds it randomly made. I literally scan thousands of pages every week so speed is important. MY RECOMMENDATION: I have owned a visoneer 9320, 7300, a HP 2400 scanner and a visoneer 7100. The best one is the visioneer 7100 -- Has decent scanning speed, color or grayscale and the scans can be made in bmp format instead of the paperport max format. Adobe elements can open bmp format and when I use elements to convert to jpeg, the pictures, in my opinion, are better looking. All scanners wear out at 25,000 to 30,000 scans (the glass "wears out" with minute scratches on its surface and effects the scan) so if you scan alot of pages, like me, the $50-60 cost of the 7100 is easy on the wallet.

Good for Windows XP, Horrible for any other operating system3
I am a computer technical support professional and have installed many scanners. The OneTouch 7300 by Visioneer is ideal for WindowsXP users that want a portable scanning solution. It is easy to install and quick to use. Unfortunately Visioneer did not test the Windows 2000 drivers and it is impossible to install the scanner drivers that are sent with the machine. After several attempts and after receiving fatal error message each time, I attempted to find tha answer on the Visioneer website. The support page had new drivers listed, but said that you must install the shipped drivers (not possible with Windows 2000). Then I called tech support, and am still on hold, 45 minutes later and no answer, and to top it off it is not a toll free call. While waiting the hold message states to visit their virtual tech support agent "Sara". That was completely useless. So be warned if you are trying to install this printer on any computer not running WindowsXP.

Worst scanner I've owned.1
I was looking forward to a new scanner after my HP died after just a year. I purchased this one based on the several good reviews on Amazon and other sites.

Now that I have the scanner I am sorely disappointed. The picture quality is horrible. No matter the tweaking I do in the scanner dialog, the picture is faded and grainy.

The software itself is the least useful interface I've ever worked with. The "auto" buttons makes the image worse, the image area recognition has never yet gotten it right, and the most useful feature only applies if you are sending the scan to Paperport, something I never want to do.
