Product Description

Orion's Mini Giant binoculars gather more light than a 50mm objective but without the bulk of larger "giant" binoculars. Their ample objectives deliver distinct high-contrast views of star clusters, bright nebulas, and galaxies. The 8x56 model offers the widest field of view and a 7mm exit pupil to match that of the fully dark-adapted eye. This model is also suitable for daytime or low-light observing.

My Favorite! Two Eyes Better Than One...5
I have used this bino for over a year now and couldn't be happier! For quick views and star-gazing moments, this bino is my "go-to-first" equipment. I actually use it more than any of my telescopes or other binos. My favorite targets are the Great Orion Nebula (M42), Sirius, Arcturus, the Pleiades, Aldebaran in Taurus, Polaris, and the Moon. It's fun to meander down the Milky Way swath and view the star clusters.

With the guidance from Phil Harrington's monthly "Binocular Universe" in Astronomy magazine and Richard Berry's book "Discover the Star: Starwatching using the naked eye, binoculars, or a telescope," the Orion 8x56 Mini Giants become a serious and satisfying sky tool, well worth the price.

This is a fantastic product that is much easier to hold than the 9x63's or the 15x70's. (Big lenses are wonderful, but if you can't hold the product steady, then you are defeating your purpose and jeapardizing your enjoyment.) The 8x56 level is a great astronomy bino because no tripod or support is needed.

As an eye glass wearer, I appreciate the comfortable, user-friendly design and appropriate eye-relief of the 8x56 Mini Giants. In my opinion, Orion, the company, always makes the best consumer-minded products.

Binoculars are the best viewing tool for casual, back yard star-gazing, and children as young as 11 years old could benefit from this bino--if they are educated properly in how to handle it and use it. A word of caution: before buying any binoculars for yourself or for others consider how the binos will be used, who will be the main user, personal eye sight issues, size / ability to hold and to adjust as needed, and potential care / maintenance. Do a bit of research before laying out the bucks; you will be glad that you did.
