HORRIBLE.....WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME1
THIS DVD OF THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS IS HORRIBLE. FIRST OF ALL IT IS NOT AUTHORIZED BY THE CHILI'S SO THERE REALLY ISN'T IMPUT FROM THEM AT ALL. JUST A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHO EITHER WORKED ON VIDEOS OR MIXED A SONG FOR THEM. THESE PEOPLE ARE IN THE INTERVIEWS. FLEA, ANTHONY & CHAD HAVE MAYBE 5 MINUTES ALL TOGETHER IN THIS WHOLE VIDEO. JOHN IS MENTIONED AND THERE ARE PHOTOS BUT NO JOHN INTERVIEWS. VERY DISSAPOINTING. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE. ANYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW ABOUT THE CHILI'S AND THEIR MUSIC AND LIFE TOGETHER AS A BAND NEEDS TO BUY THE FUNKY MONKS DVD, OFF THE MAP AND THE GREATEST HITS CD WITH VIDEOS AND WATCH THE FOOTAGE OF THEM ON THE ROAD. THAT IS HOW YOU WILL GET TO KNOW THEM AND THEIR CHEMISTRY TOGETHER. THIS DVD IS MADE BY SOMEONE WHO WANTED TO MAKE SOME POCKET CHANGE FOR THEMSELVES. I WAITED ALL DAY FOR THIS TO BE DELIVERED TO MY HOUSE AND AFTER I SAW THIS DVD I JUST WANTED TO THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW. SO PLEASE ANYONE WHO WANTS TO GET TO KNOW THE CHILI'S BUY THE OTHER DVD'S I MENTIONED AND IF YOU WANT TO HEAR AND VIEW A FANTASTIC CONCERT DON'T FORGET ABOUT GETTING YOUR HANDS ON THE SLANE DVD. HAD IT SINCE IT CAME OUT AND I WATCH IT ALMOST EVERYDAY. SO PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP. YOU WILL REGRET IT LIKE I DID. :(

i should have listened to that other dude1
I bought this DVD because I'm a huge fan of the chili peppers, so I get all their CDs and DVDs. But I should have listened to that first guy's review. Not only did this documentary lack any significant input from the band or their friends, but it had incorrect/incomplete information and was boring as hell.

There were 3 interesting people interviewed for the DVD (aside from the band member clips taken from other interviews). One was Dick Rude, a friend of theirs who directed some of their videos and also made some documentaries on them. Another was Peter Weiss from Thelonious Monster, a band led by Bob Forrest, a long time friend of the band (also, John was going to join TM before RHCP recruited him). And the third was DH, the drummer they performed with after Jack left, but before Chad joined.

Although I refer to them as interesting people, they really didn't have anything interesting to input into the DVD that hasn't been said already (and said better, I might add). Instead of this DVD, get ANY other DVD. Funky Monks, Off the Map, and the Greatest Hits DVD are all fantastic. Even the Unauthorized Rock Your Socks Off DVD is better. That one at least had Blackie (Anthony's dad) and Bob Forrest in it. But if you're really looking for insight into the Chili Pepper world, get Anthony's book Scar Tissue.

Don't get this DVD!

Terrible Biographical DVD. Sorry, but it is awful.1
Here are the virtues that I see in this DVD: there are a few interesting comments made by a very few reminiscing friends and associates. There are a very few scenes with the Peppers speaking.

Now here are the slams:
1. There is random, not Peppers music playing throughout the DVD. Is it Creed? Bad idea.
2. As the commentary talks about the old times in the band, you see imagery of Dave Navarro and later Chili Peppers clips. There is a section that discusses John Frusciante in the band and who do they show images of? Dave Navarro. Nice
3. There are several annoying clips that show Anthony speaking in slow motion, muted.
4. There is about one sentence discussing the success of Blood Sugar Sex Magic.
5. The DVD is filled with stock video clips as opposed to clips of substance.

I don't like to diss but this DVD sucks. If you are a die-hard fan then check it out. No don't. It sucks. It is a problematic production. See for yourself if you insist.
