A principios del siglo XX la joven Carmen esta enamorada del joven Fernando, pero su madre Carlota la quiere casar con Rodrigo, un viejo ridículo pero rico. Don Pancho, que pasa por padrino de Fernando pero que es su padre oculto, lo ayuda emborrachando al vejete la víspera de su boda y fingiendo que se debe batir en duelo para hacer que se vaya en fuga mientras los jóvenes se casan, así como también los padres de éstos, don Pancho y doña Carlota.
