Amazon.com Review
Music fans love to take their iPods on the road, but the road offers one major problem--no charging outlets. Enter the Griffin PowerPod auto charger, which plugs into your car's cigarette lighter to provide a consistent power source. The charger powers the iPod whether it's playing music or in standby mode, so users don't have to suffer through any charging downtime. It's also intended to complement the iPod's sleek, modern design, with a dimpled white and grey body. The PowerPod comes with a 4-foot FireWire cable that connects to your iPod's dock connector for charging. Owners of the original 1G and 2G iPods can instead connect the default FireWire cables that came with their models.
Features and Performance
iPod owners will warm up to the PowerPod in a manner of seconds. It's ready to use right out of the box--just plug in the FireWire cable and start charging. A small red LED light indicates when the unit is working, as does the iPod's charging icon in the upper right corner. During testing, the PowerPod refreshed about an hour's worth of playtime in a few minutes while music was playing. Owners of other iPod auto accessories such as FM transmitters--which draw their power from the iPod's battery--will find the PowerPod particularly valuable, as it keeps their iPods juiced up over long road trips.
Simple and efficient, the PowerPod is a must for iPod-equipped road trippers. --Rivers Janssen
Pros
- Charges iPods during road trips
- Works in standby mode or while playing music
- Compatible with original 1G and 2G iPods and newer iPods with dock connectors

Customer Reviews
Simple, Effective, and 2 Accessories for One Price.
I'm not someone that spends all day on the road, but I do take enough trips and even use my iPod around town. Ipod car chargers can incredibly overpriced as can a simple firewire cable. So It's a bargin to get not only a car charger, but an extra firewire cable, so I can leave one plugged into my Mac all the time.
Works with both old & NEW iPods!!
Looking for a car charger, I noticed this one had a removable FireWire cable - which meant I could use any other cable I want. Now that I've upgraded to the new iPod (I got a new 15 GB) I was suprised to discover that it works with the new iPods too. I just use the dock-to-FireWire cable that comes with the new iPod and it works perfectly. Even IF I buy an extra dock cable, it's still less than the Belkin charger at 40 bucks. Plus I can use it interchangeably with my wife's iPod (my old one ;).
All in all, the PowerPod is a great value, flexable and future-proof. You can't ask for much more. I don't hesitate recommending this iPod charger to anyone.
Drive nowhere without it...
When I initially bought my iPod Mini I did not purchase this, but I soon found out if you play your iPod constantly like I do, you will be in dire straights if you don't have one. Some people will complain that the portion that goes in the cigarette lighter is loose ow whatnot keep in mind that different cars have different lighter sizes although they may vary slightly. I drive a Nissan Maxima and it fits very well...the cord is a wee bit short in my opinion but still worth the investment to keep your iPod playing.
