Average customer review:Product Description
This DVD includes a beautiful and evocative 60 minute documentary which tells the story of how one of the world's greatest nature photographers immersed himself in a Zen-like exploration of his craft and the untamed landscape of the rugged north woods of Minnesota.
For 90 days Brandenburg took only a single picture each day - one click of the shutter. The stunning images resulted in a National Geographic cover story as well as the best selling book by the same name.
The documentary travels with Jim to revisit many of the locations of the most memeroable photographs in the project. On-camera, Jim reveals the stories behind the decisions to press the shutter at particular moments.
The hour long Emmy Award nominated documentary has played on PBS stations throughout the country. The DVD contains extra features including a slide show of the images from Brandenburg's latest book "Looking for the Summer", a slide show of outtakes from his latest book narrated by Brandenburg and a musical video performance by Michael Monroe, the composer of the soundtrack

A documentary worth watching
Photographer Jim Brandenburg takes you on his personal photographic journey that re-awakened his spirit and love of his craft after a burn out shooting for National Geographic magazine. Enchanting music from Michael Monroe accompanies the beautiful scenery and images from the northwoods of Minnesota. Jim reflects on some of his unique experiences while capturing some of the images on his journey. A must for photographers or anyone interested in wildlife and nature. Highly recommended.
Brought tears to my eyes
I saw this on PBS last night; when I read the program description, I thought it would be boring - photos of a lake? I was later glad nothing was on Nick at Night, as this was an incredible documentary. The photographs were stunningly beautiful; the video of the photographer at work was amazing. Several of the photographs featured brought tears to my eyes. He mentions some of the technical aspects involved in the photos, and the sheer challenge of limiting himself to taking just one exposure per day. I plan on adding this and the book Chased By The Light to my collection.
Tranquility at its best.
The first time I saw this on PBS, many years ago (2003?) I could hardly drink it in, it was that amazing and captivating. The one photo a day concept seemed impossible- I actually felt the nervousness at times when there didn't seem to be a "moment". WOW--! I vowed to own it somehow without repledging to PBS. Now that I own it, I can revisit these most incredible photos of the beautiful north woods of MN and transform into a calmer, quieter place with the soothing voice of Jim, and the wonderful music from Michael Monroe. A must own for every home! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
