Editorial Reviews

Editorial Review
Doodle Pro is not as challenging as its predecessor-sketcher, but it's just as intriguing for younger kids, who will ponder the mystery of the sketching surface just the same. There's a fat, easy-grip stylus with a magnetic tip, and some magnetic stampers stored in a pull-out drawer. When the molded forms are pressed on the 10.5 by 7.5-inch doodling surface, pretty shapes are created. And, instead of shaking, there's a heart-shaped, sliding eraser for starting over instantly. Because there's no mess, and only a few loose pieces, it's also great for travel. --Diane Beall

Just like Magna Doodle4
For those of us parents who grew up with the Magna Doodle, you should know this is the exact same product re-branded. Fisher-Price renamed this the Doodle Pro when it started buying the screens from a different manufacturer in 2004. It now comes with four magnetic shapes in a drawer on the left side instead of the two round shapes that just "sit" on the side. It has the same minor draw-backs as the original - sometimes the screen doesn't seem to fully erase, it fades over time, etc.

My daughter recieved this for her second birthday and it is the PERFECT gift. She likes to draw (especially with pens rather than crayons) but she tends to eventually eat crayons and accidentally gets pen marks on her clothes, tables, etc. The Doodle Pro was the perfect answer! She thinks she's drawing with a pen, and everything stays clean. She can erase the screen easily (her favorite part).

I only have two complaints.

- The pen is mounted on the right side, so left-handers will have difficulty (I am left-handed, but my daughter is not) or else you can use it upside down.

- The drawer that holds the shapes is difficult to open and close for a toddler. She has to ask me for help doing this. On the other hand, this difficulty keeps the drawer closed when she is hauling it around; gravity can't pull it open and lose the pieces.

If I ever have to replace this, I plan to get the one that comes with a travel size. The regular is just a little too large for a toddler to hold on their lap in the car (and my daughter is taller than average). I think the technology behind this product is ingenious despite that it fades over time. But my 2-year-old daughter could care less about the perfection in the screen, she just wants to get to use a pen!

My kids love it. But take care of the screen.4
I'm on my second DoodlePro. My first ds took a toy hammer to the first one and damaged the screen, so there were permanent marks on it. That was the only reason I gave 3 stars for durability. Otherwise the rest of the item (pen, magnets, etc) have held up very well.

I have 3 children now, and they all love the DoodlePro. It's great for my 3yo because he can just scribble and then start all over. My 18 month old dd can scribble without the mess of crayons (which she prefers to eat LOL).

Unlike other reviewers, I have had no problems with the erasing bar, pen operation (others have mentioned the lines don't show dark enough) or storage drawer. I have to remind the kids not to lean on the screen when they are erasing--that's why the bar gets stuck or out of place.

Fantastic Toy5
I'm getting another one of these today. My two children can't stop fighting over the one we already have. That has not happened in my house yet!
This is a great price for a toy that really delivers lots of fun for your children. I can't say enough about it.
My son loves the ease of magnetic drawing, if he messes up, he can erase part of his picture and start over. I love that he doesn't get our living room cluttered up with scraps of paper. My 2 year old daughter loves drawing with it because it's so easy and doesn't require a lot of manual force like crayons or pencils. I love that she isn't getting crayon all over the house. And with the little handle on top, even the two year old can help herself to it, bring it downstairs, etc. The other thing I like is the big screen which gives lots of room to draw on.
I've caught my husband doodling on this thing too!
