Editorial Reviews

The Texas comic and co-star of Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie ponders the absurdity of fashionable eyewear ("Why do sunglasses cost more than a 25-inch TV?") and much else in the live performance Ron White: They Call Me Tater Salad. Looking as if he just woke up from a nap (or is on his third beer), White contemplates eros with the inarguable "You see one woman nekkid... you want to see them all nekkid." A veteran of hurricane country, he contemplates those idiots who insist they're strong enough to sit out big storms: "If you're hit by a Volvo, it doesn't matter how many sit-ups you did that morning." On wedding anniversaries: "Diamonds--that'll shut her up." Some of White's material is unnecessarily crude for such a clever guy, but the best stuff, including a funny monologue about his half-mad, deer-hunting cousin, makes up for it. --Tom Keogh

Never gets old for me.5
IT is true that a lot of the jokes that are in this DVD were used by Ron White in the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. But that does not make them any less funny. I found Ron to be the funniest of all the comedians in the tour, so if you liked Ron and only Ron from the BCCT, then this DVD would be worth your money. However, if you liked all of the comedians, then invest in the BCCT.

Ron talks about his rich and spoiled ex-wife upon whom he cheated due to a lack of intimate activity. Included is humor about his dog's bodily functions, his problems with an airplane flight, and his deer-hunting cousin. There is more but I would have to watch the DVD again to remember.

Yes, Ron does use more language than in the BCCT, but I did not in any way find it to be so offensive that I would want to throw the DVD away. Basically, if you are a person who LOVED his jokes from the BCCT, then this is the DVD for you. I can watch this DVD once a month and not get bored of it.

The Funniest Comedian I've Seen In A While4
Like other reviewers, I had never seen Ron White until I saw the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" movie. And although he got less screen time than the other 3 comedians, he stole that show. As a result of that success, he got to have his own show on Comedy Central, which is the show on this DVD.

I have to say that almost all of the jokes he told in "BCCT" are repeated in this special, so the impact wasn't as strong on me. But there are a few new bits that will make you laugh, including some hilarious stories dealing with his wife and bulldog. He's much more profane in this performance (BCCT was fairly clean), but I don't think to an over-the-top degree.

Ron "Tater Salad" White has become an overnight success in the past year or so and I hope to see new bits in the not too distant future.

far surpasses his buddies4
Ron White is one of those guys who is absurdly clever to the point of making you wonder why exactly you're laughing so hard - it's like being blindsided by a truck dressed like a miata. I personally do not find Larry the cable guy or Bill Engvall funny at all (especially his stolen "here's your sign" bit), and i think Jeff Foxworthy has been riding the same joke for far too long - Ron White is light-years ahead of his partners on the blue comedy tour, and deserves a name outside of the mediocre might-be-a-redneck train on which he's hitched a ride thus far. This special is HYSTERICAL, but as other reviewers have said, you may have already seen half the material if you've seen the blue collar comedy tour - which is probably what turned you on to Ron in the first place. I'd wait for the next DVD if you've already seen this stuff, but if not, it will lay you out laughing.
