Celebrity guest stars such as William Holden, Orson Welles, and John Wayne had always been a successful trademark on Lucille Ball's four television series, beginning in 1951 with I Love Lucy through her fourth and final program, Here's Lucy, lasting 1968 through 1972. Here's Lucy: Best Loved Episodes from the Hit TV Series is a best-of package with an emphasis on celebrity-driven stories starring the likes of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, Jack Benny, Ginger Rogers, and Milton Berle. The anthology has been compiled by Ball's two children, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr., who co-starred on the show as Kim and Craig Carter, adolescent daughter and son of Ball's character, widow Lucille Carter. The Arnaz offspring are all over this set in a very charming way, offering brief comments once you select a title to watch as well as optional, extended commentary on every episode. They're also personally involved in a couple of many, delightful extra features, including a 1974 sketch from a live charity event in which Lucie and Desi Jr. played their parents in a scene from I Love Lucy.

Most of the programs in Best Loved Episodes feature one or another show-business legend, sometimes playing themselves, at other times portraying a fictional character. Among the latter, Milton Berle is a fount of wicked burlesque as a used-car salesman foisting a psychedelicized hunk of junk on Kim and Craig, and Helen Hayes is particularly memorable as a seemingly desperate and kooky Irish tourist who may be pulling a scam on Lucille's brother-in-law and boss, Harry (Ball's longtime comic foil, the great Gale Gordon). Burton and Taylor, playing themselves, prove wonderful sports in an episode where Lucille mistakes the Welsh master thespian for a plumber and gets Liz's enormous diamond ring stuck on her own finger. (The show features one of Ball's best bits, substituting her own, out-of-control left arm for Taylor's during a press junket.) Shelley Winters is equally playful as a movie star with a compulsive eating disorder; the slender Lucille is pressed into service as a watchdog over Winters's appetite. I Love Lucy co-star Vivian Vance has two welcome appearances as old friend Viv (both episodes make excellent use of Gordon's trademark powers of exasperation), and Jack Benny plays himself twice, once in a touching, funny episode in which he and Ball play people from different chapters of Benny's life. These old pros from radio, stage, and the Golden Age of Hollywood never lost a step. --Tom Keogh

Beautifully restored uncut DVD set with great extras5
OK, we all know HERE'S LUCY isn't her best work, but this set is well worth the price for fans. There are lots of guest stars, the shows look amazing and are completely uncut, and there is a wealth of extra features included.

Don't bother getting angry with Lucie and Desi Jr about the earlier series THE LUCY SHOW not being well represented on DVD either, as they don't own the right to that series.

I really prefer the complete season format on DVD releases but in this case, I am not complaining. I do wish we'd had a few more of the shows that didn't feature guest stars but rather concentrated on the regular cast but I guess they felt the stars would help sales. Hopefully this set will do well and they may do another volume of 24 more shows soon.

DVD quality is great5
This DVD set of "Here's Lucy" is fantastic. DVD quality is superb!! Time was definetly put into making sure this set was done right. There are 24 episodes and the jacket says there are 14 commentaries by Lucie Arnaz, Desi Arnaz Jr., Carol Burnett and Wayne Newton. Most commentaries are done by Lucie and Desi Jr. . You can watch these particular episodes normally or with the commentaries. There are 11 episodes with commentaries. Not sure where the other 3 are. 3RD SERIES SHINES BEAUTIFULY IN DIGITAL5
I've only been through Disc 1 and that disc alone is a treasure trove.

Naturally, the most famous HERE'S LUCY episode is included, where Lucy encounters Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor and ends up getting Elizabeth's huge diamond ring stuck on her finger. Other episodes include guest appearances by Jack Benny, Carol Burnett, Sammy Davis Jr., Shelley Winters, Helen Hayes, among others. One hilarious episode with just the regular cast, including Gale Gordon, Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz, Jr., has Lucy destroying Harry's house looking for some loose wires.

DVD remastering is superb with great commentary by Lucie, Desi Jr and Carol Burnett on selected episodes. Picture clarity is the best I've seen and "stereo" sound for a TV series of that era. Also includes Blooper reels of outtakes, mistakes, rehearsals of actual shows with some "surprise" visitors to the set, and spots from Lucy guest appearances on other specials with guest stars that appeared on her show.

My disappointment was Best Buy and Target "not" having it on day of release and Barnes & Noble having "one" that I grabbed, even at full price. This is shocking for anything "Lucy" for fans that want to go to the store. Are some retailers forgetting who she was?

If you get it, ENJOY!

To one of the reviewers above....YES....both LUCY THE FIXIT and LUCY AND LAWRENCE WELK, with VIVIAN VANCE are included in this set! I'm sorry that the CHUCK CONNORS episode, as well as MY FAIR BUZZI didn't make the cut.
