Lovely
This is an excellent collection of orchestral music by Bizet. The Carmen Suite is very good, although the last number seems too fast to me. You couldn't sing it at that tempo. My favorite CD of music from Carmen was by Sir Alexander Gibson on a now deleted Classic Records reissue--very much worth looking for. The rest of the performances by Chung are impeccable. His orchestra is beautifully drilled, and their ensemble is a joy to hear. The suite from Jeux D'Enfants has a delightful picaresque quality, very tongue in cheek. The L'Arlesienne suites are given complete, and the range of emotion in this work is rendered very truthfully. The sound engineering on this CD is excellent, well balanced with good dynamics and just the slightest sense of distance from the ensemble. I really can't think of a better version of L'Arlesienne, not even on classic recordings by Paray and Van Beinum.
Very good for beginners
Though it is a very old CD, it is still very good for beginners.
