Excellent, Fun, and Challenging4
Excellent hammered dulcimer lessons that are challenging, but fun. Robin Petrie is EXCELLENT and she really makes the lessons interesting and fun. She is an amazing musician. Robin teaches you 5 challenging and beautiful songs on this video and also teaches you how to embellish them once you have learned the basic notes.

Robin begins with the basics of how the notes are set up and how to tune the dulcimer, how to hammer, how to pick out scales, chords and arpegios. She teaches 5 fantastic tunes (Humours of Tullagh--an Irish reel, A scarce of Tatties (a Scottish jig), Michel's Mazurcha (a French Dance), Carolan's Draught) and Si Bheag Si Mohar (two Irish Harp pieces) and teaches you ways to embellish. Robin makes great efforts to play each tune at different tempos--first at the tempo it is normally played and then extremely slow and in segments so you can catch it and practice.

If you want to be challenged and make speedy progress in playing the hammered dulcimer, this is a great way to learn. There is nothing boring or too slow about this video. Instead of playing the basic Twinkle Twinkle Little Star-type songs, you will be playing a fast and Irish Reel after the first song lesson. I love Robin Petrie's lessons. She has a great sense of humor and is a fantastic musician.
