Not included with the 20GB5
The first review here is very helpful, but I believe there's a mistake. I thought it was important to note that this dock does not come with the 20GB 4g click wheel iPod. If you buy the 20GB iPod, this dock will be an additional $40 expense, which brings you almost halfway to the price of the 40GB iPod... which comes with the dock.

It does the job it is supposed to do5
This dock works specifically with the 4th generation click wheel iPods. The firewire and the usb cable needed to connect this dock to anything are included with the iPod unit itself.

It comes with both the 20GB and 40GB dock sizes.

It does the following:
1. Allows you to stand up the iPod and connect it to the iPod charger (via the firewire).
2. Allows you to connect the iPod to your computer for syncing up with iTunes (via the usb cable or firewire if your pc has the port).
3. Allows you to connect to your computer speakers (via a 'line out').

The only slight issue I have with it is using the iPod menu system while it is resting in the dock. The dock is plastic, so there is a little give to it. I feel like if I don't go easy on it, I could possibly damage the dock. Usually I just take it out of the dock to make a selection, and then put it back in.

It is a handy item.

Decent, but I wouldn't buy it again.2
I find this really isn't necessary. I could connect the iPod directly to my computer via the USB port and it operated the same way, except it was lying down on the desk instead of standing up in the dock. If it weren't so expensive I'd give it more stars.

Another issue I had with the iPod -- and I recognize this is MY fault, not Apple's -- if you are one of those people who, like myself, become overjoyed by the arrival of a new product and immediately tear into it without stopping to read the directions, BEWARE! I was unaware it comes with two different dock covers for the 20gig and the 40gig iPod, and inevitably in my excitement I connected the wrong cover. It is not designed to unattach! If my handy Boy Scout fiance hadn't been around to detatch it for me (with difficulty), I'd still have the wrong cover connected and I probably wouldn't even be using it. Of course, that's my fault entirely for being overeager. Just be warned! :o)
