Fans from south of the border5
My husband and I saw the pilot episode of Corner Gas back in 2004 while we were on our honeymoon in Niagara Falls. We laughed our butts off! For our third anniversary this year, I decided to see if I could track down the show, whose name we didn't recall, as a surprise for him. We're now halfway through Season 2, have Season 3 waiting in the wings, and already pre-ordered Season 4.

We have been stumped a few times by "inside" references, but hey, that's what Google is for! What a great show. We love the quirky dialogue and sight gags. Can't wait for Season 5 to make it to us on DVD!

It Just Doesn't Get Any Better5
I work in a nonproffit organization with volunteers. Last year, some of these volunteers began pestering me to watch this new "Corner Gas" show that was coming out. Finally, I did. It was one of those cases where one watches once, to shut people up, and then does not lok back. I am hooked. I watched all of the episodes, bought the DVD's, and even bought copies of the DVD's for some of my American friends, some of whom have said this is the best TV they've seen in years.

My only gripe about the DVD's are that CTV's descriptive video track was not included. I am blind, and was grateful to learn that the program was being aired on TV with descriptive video. It would have been very helpful if the descriptive video had been made available as an alternate audio track on the CD's.

Even so, this is must-see TV. If you thought that Canada couldn't come out with a decent sitcom, this show will prove you wrong, as it has proven me wrong.

Superb Canadian Comedy for Everyone5
I don't watch TV that much nowadays, but about a year ago I caught this show, Corner Gas, on CTV and couldn't stop laughing. After catching a couple of more episodes I was hooked. This is comedy at its finest, and the fact that it's Canadian is just a bonus. After finishing the year with averages of 1 million+ per episode (an achievement for a Canadian show), the DVD set is finally out and it's worth every dollar.

What is the show about? Well, without spoiling anything, here's the premise (from cornergas.com):

"Corner Gas is a comedy series that answers many of the questions we have about small town life. What would life be like if you lived in the middle of nowhere? What would you do with your days? How long would it take before you go nuts?"

If this sounds remotely funny to you, then don't hesitate in giving this show a shot. The beauty about this show is that it definitely appeals to everyone (Canadian or not), and to every age group (everyone in my family watches it). So if you are looking for a smart, witty, well-written and family-friendly comedy, this one fits the bill.

As for the DVD set itself: not bad at all. All 13 episodes from season 1 are present in this 2-DVD set, in excellent quality (video and audio). You'll get some extra material too: 3 episode commentaries, interview footage, deleted scenes, outtakes, and DVD-ROM elements. Haven't checked out the extras myself yet, but for the price of the set, I am more than happy to just get the 13 episodes on DVD.

Favourite episode has to be The Taxman, but almost all the episodes are as funny (Pilates, World's Biggest, etc.) Season 2 is now on CTV (Tuesdays) and Comedy Network (Saturdays)... can't wait for the DVD set of that season too.
