La Cosa Nostra: The History of NY Mafia, is a captivating look at the rise and fall of the New York organized crime syndicate. From Southern Italy to the Big City, the entire history of the mob is covered with the booming business of the Prohibition in the 30’s, the jailing of godfather Lucky Luciano, to the government crackdown and the arrest of the seemingly untouchable John Gotti. Through interviews with former mob members and celebrities, La Cosa tells the true story of "the business." First seen as "charming rogues" and "modern day robin-hoods" the mafia started off as an underground resistance to corrupt Italian state government. When they made their move to the states, they had their hand in activities such as: extortion, burglary, prostitution, gambling and fixing sporting events. The original 5 mob families in New York: the Profaci, Bonanno, Luciano, Mangano and Gagliano had a stranglehold on a majority of the commerce in New York City in the early part of the 20th century, until internal conflict led to their downfall.

Customer Reviews
Very Bad Documentary
Another bad documentary. Good mafia documentaries are rare. This one is just another one with the usual rehashed scenes and photographs. On top of that, there are historical errors. It goes so far as to say that Joe Adonis (Joe Doto) was not Italian (he immigrated from Italy) and that Crazy Joe Gallo was a member of the Gambino family (he really was part of the Colombo family). It seems like this documentary was put together in a hurry just to reap a buck. It totally neglected to compose a qualitative, detailed, and informative historical outline of the Mafia.
