Purple in Poland 96
I recently recieved and watched this new Concert DVD of Deep Purple in Poland in 1996. I enjoyed it very much. Some of the other concerts available out there are better, but this one is still pretty good. Ian Gillan is a bit hoarse, at this concert, not surprising really, when you consider the amount of touring they had been doing. His voice was in much better shape a couple of weeks later, just check out the very very good Live CD "Live at the Olympia" which was recorded a couple of weeks later from this one. I went to see Deep Purple in Toronto Canada in Feb of 2004, Gillan had never sounded better. I think that a lot depends on what point you see a rock singer on any particular tour. Singing over such volume is something very few can do just one night, let alone a 3 month tour or whatever. As to this DVD. The instrumental skill of this band is worth buying this DVD. Steve Morse and Jon Lord are just so good. Lord's solo spot is really good, with a good mix of Hammond organ and Piano. Also good was Rosas Cantina, a really good song from Purpendicular. Great live version, with great Organ work from Lord and also some good Haronica by Ian Gillan. The camera work is pretty good, with some fun angles and shots down from the Rafters. Finally there are some really good relaxed interviews with Morse, gillan, paice and Glover. This is a must see for Purple fans, and I also recommend it to hard Rock fans in general. Thanks for listening Sincerely Richard Woodhouse Bradford Pa USA
2003 issue from 1996
this is actually a show from 1996 in Poland. The sound is fair but overall the DVD is pretty good. It has current (2003 or so) interviews with members from the current band. If you haven't bought any Purple DVD's, this is NOT the one to start with. Go with Australia 1999 or Bombay Calling as the sound and video are much better. If you are a Purple freak (and realize that Steve Morse is one heck of a guitar player who can outplay Blackmore) then this is a good release.
Going Down!!!
I was Not very pleased with The Album when Compared to the Band's Performance in Australia.
The Lighting was not Pleasing.
