From the Manufacturer
Whether capturing baby's first steps or the little league game, Canon's Sure Shot Z180u date point-and-shoot camera allows people to enjoy snapping exceptional photos from either close up or far away. The longest zoom of any Sure Shot camera, a 4.7x, 38-180mm lens resides inside an attractive yet compact aluminum alloy case that will be sure to turn heads. A new control configuration will also make taking great photos easy with improved functionality for photographers of any skill level.
Weighing in at less than eight ounces, the Sure Shot Z180u date camera offers some heavyweight photo features including a wide area 7-point/3-zone zoom-coupled autofocus system that adjusts automatically as the lens is zoomed to preserve off-center coverage even when the lens is at its wide-angle zoom setting. In short, this "Smart" autofocus system knows how to keep the subject in focus even when the subject is not in the center of the frame.
Simply Advanced
An enlarged LCD panel located on the back of the camera is the command center for the features on the Sure Shot Z180u date, including six Programmed Image Control (PIC) modes for total control in almost any shooting condition. The PIC modes automatically set the camera's autofocus, exposure metering and film advance for optimum results based on which of the six settings the user selects. Examples of PIC's intelligent innovations are the Portrait mode that automatically zooms the camera to maintain head-and-shoulders composition as the lens focuses on the subjects and the Action mode, which engages a continuous servo autofocus that follows moving subjects. The remaining PIC settings are landscape, close-up and night scene modes, Real Time Release (RT).
Genuine Canon Optics
The Sure Shot Z180u date camera's built-in 38-180mm optical zoom lens carries on the Canon tradition of optical excellence, with more than 50 years of lens making experience and expertise. This nine-element zoom —- constructed using high quality Canon glass —- is designed with two aspherical elements for low distortion, excellent optical quality, color, and clarity, and compact size.
Among the Sure Shot Z180u date camera's other advanced capabilities are the Light Guide Flash that automatically fires in low light and backlit conditions to ensure proper exposure under virtually any shooting condition. The Light Guide Flash also provides even illumination throughout the camera's zoom range and can be set to AUTO (with and without red-eye reduction), Flash ON, Flash OFF and Slow-Sync for combining flash photography with natural light. The camera also employs a CMOS light-metering sensor with automatic backlight detection capability and even offers users the option of manually setting their own exposure compensation plus or minus 1.5 stops.
For additional flexibility, the Sure Shot Z180u date compact 35mm camera also offers users a menu of five custom functions that suit their individual preferences, habits and style of shooting. This custom menu features settings for real time shutter release; to save flash modes when the flash is turned off; to cancel the automatic rewind at the end of a roll of film; to limit the autofocus to the center point only; and finally, continuous one frame per second shooting. Flexibility is further improved by providing compatibility with the optional RC-5 wireless remote control unit.

- Z180u date body with wrist strap
- Sure Shot deluxe shot camera case

Sharp Pictures
This is one of the best point&shoot camera, Auto focus works perfectly fine, it just requires little practice.
Night shot picture quality is unbelievable. Very Sharp and natural colors and big zoom.
I would highly recommend this camera, just spend little time to learn how to get steady green light(focus) and you are good to go.
Definately a satisfactory purchase
I'm pleased with the purchase. I bought this camera just under two years ago when I was getting ready for a trip abroad.
I spent six months in England, with five weeks travelling around Europe with this camera in its case on my belt. It's very sturdy if nothing else, between the trains, planes, hostels, and general bustle I'm very pleased with how well it held up. Nothing on it broke.
I probably took at least 400 pictures during my trip, if not more. Sure I've had to swap out batteries on one or two occasions in the two years I've had it, but my general feeling is that the batteries are holding up quite well.
The zoom on this camera is very nice. It's one of the better zooms I've seen on a simple camera of this type, or at least it was back when I bought it.
It also has several features that older film cameras do not, such as a timer that you can set before running to get in your own picture, or settings to take "Portraits" or "Night shots."
I know that this camera cannot compare to professional cameras, I know that it doesn't have all the frills of the new digital cameras, and I am not trying to compare it to those. I'm not a professional photographer, so I don't know how to use a camera with exchangable lenses and whatnot. I don't want a digital for personal and professional reasons. For a traditional film camera, this one is the best I've ever used.
BOTTOM LINE: Good quality photos, a sturdy build, excellent zoom lens, useful and easy to use features, and long battery life make this camera an excellent choice if you want a traditional film camera with a few perks.
Using camera
Very good camera. This was a present for my wife as she needed a new camera. She picked it out and liked that it came as a complete kit. Directions can be hard to follow at times and could be printed larger. Takes some getting used to. Zoom lense works great and takes good pictures. Where the on-off button is so close to the shutter, you have to be careful that you don't accidentally shut the camera off. She is very satisfied with it.
