Cost effective and useful
This is a cost effective product and useful if you want to turn an internal hard drive into an external one. However, the casing used and the overall quality of the product is not impressive. Basically, you are paying for the connector that turns an internal laptop hard drive into an external one.

Great product for the price, but the instructions STINK!!
I purchased this product because I was removing an old ATA drive from a laptop and I needed an external enclosure for the drive. The product came with minimal drive installation instructions; specifically the drive interface did not look like an ATA interface.

I finally figured out that you need to slip the drive into the enclosure and then align the pins to the drive interface. When I plugged in the USB cable I had a green light on the drive enclosure, but the drive did not show up when I selected My Computer on my XP machine. I needed to do this in order to reformat the drive.

I had a copy of Seagate's Disk Manager, downloaded from their website (it will only work if you have a Seagate drive). With the Seagate Acronis software I was able to format the old drive in the drive enclosure.

Now things are wonderful.

works great for the price
As others have said this is basically just a device to connect the hard drive to any computer. If it is a tough case you want for transportation and things of that nature I would upgrade to a more secure device. Other than that this thing works wonders, I saved my old laptop hard drive from being completely wiped out with this little guy. So I say it is definitely worth the price.
