Positive Vibration
5 Stars is not enough for this one. 4 live tracks and 34 incredible tracks for the price of a regular CD. What's not to like? Digitally remastered in its full glory, Gold is...well..pretty much all of the revered hits(e.g. No Woman No Cry) as well as some lesser known, yet just as archetypal efforts such as Crazy Baldhead. The more intense Marley fans might scoff at this 2 CD set as too commercially appealing.
I, on the other hand, think this is perfect for any Marley enthusiast who doesn't feel like buying 20 separate CD's but wants to experience Marley from his austere beginning to his untimely death. The ingenious layout of Gold delineates its tracks like Stir It Up from his first independent album all the way to Buffalo Soldier and Iron Lion Zion that were, of course, released posthumously. Solid.
Expanded version of "Legend"?
Quick note: this 34 track, 2-disk set contains 13 of 14 tracks on the 1984 release of "Legend" - "Three Little Birds" is not included, which is a curious song to leave off. Anyway, I think it's a great expansion. Also, in response to an earlier review, I did a side-by-side listen of a couple of tracks with the 1984 Legend CD and the bass is every bit as strong ...
Like Legend, but better
These cd's are a must for every music collection. This set spans the legendary career of Bob Marley and his Band the Wailers. This set cover songs from every album, and if you don't want to buy all the albums this set is good because it gives you a good taste of what each album is going to sound like. I can't reccommend any one Album by Bob Marley and the Wailers to start out with over another, but if you get this set it will lead you into the right direction. Each album has it's own groove and once you have listened to this set you will see that, and if you want more you will know exactly what album to start with. I can't believe it took island records this long to come up with the idea of a career spanning 2 cd set to introduce people to the legendary Bob Marley and the Wailers. If you have any sort of music collection, this 2 cd set belongs in it for sure.
