Passionate, classy, and playful, Juliets unique salsa style captivates both men and women on the dance floor. Her eclectic dance background-including salsa, ballroom, swing, ballet, jazz, modern, yoga, dance history, and movement analysis-informs both her dancing and teaching. Juliets approach to salsa is revolutionary because she takes into consideration both similarities and differences between nightclub Latin dances and ballroom Latin dances. These two forms of "Latin" dance are often represented in opposition to each other-the structured, technical form for competition ballroom dancing vs. the spontaneous and free form for social interactions in clubs. Juliet has developed a structure for teaching and learning the technique for playful salsa dancing that does not destroy its improvisational character. Some of the competition titles she has accrued include U.S. National Rising Star Professional Rhythm Finalist and Conga Room Salsa Finalist. As an exhibition ballroom and Latin dancer, Juliet has performed extensively throughout the U.S. Juliet is also a PhD candidate in dance history and theory at the University of California, Riverside.

From among about forty dance DVDs I own-most of them salsa-this one stands out because it gives you a whole bouquet of variations that can spice up your salsa. Or make it look different from others' on the dance floor. The wonderful thing about this video is Juliet teaches you how to use interesting-and not difficult-styling to look great even if your lead doesn't know a thing about salsa. As long as he can hold both your hands, or do the basic or a bit of a cross body lead, you can still manage to look pretty good.
The DVD is organized in three sections. The first teaches variations on the basics that can be built right into your dancing - immediately. An interesting hip roll during the basic, a little point syncopation on the cumbia step, a nice side break; all very easy to learn and very easy to use.
The second section has supported shines-fancy looking but easy tricks to look great. The third section-my absolute favourite because I can do away with the partner altogether-is the one on solo shines. They're lovely and I haven't seen them done that way on any other DVD or on any of the zillions of free clips all over the Net. She looks good and so can you.
She teaches each variation very well, taking time to break it down and show different angles.
Juliet is accompanied by the well-known Jesus Morales on this DVD. But he's rather low profile, unfortunately. Basically he does as he's told. Oh well. It's still one of my favourite DVDs.
This DVD is part of a set of two. If you know your salsa basics, posture, timing, tone, etc, you don't really need DVD 1.
Great styling DVD!
The moves are very well broken down and easy to learn. Juliet shows every move from both front and back and also demonstrates what it would look like with a partner. Also some of the supported shines are impossible to do without a partner. (Although for practice you can use a chair).
Some of the moves that Juliet teaches are rarely seen at the clubs, so you will be original

Buy, you will not regret. But you have to be at least high intermediate level.
