Editorial Reviews
From the Manufacturer
- JVC introduces a new MiniDV digital camcorder line, distinguished by a new compact design that's easier to use and small enough to take anywhere. For 2005, JVC offers a wider range of camcorder options, from value-packed entry-level models to feature-rich units.
An exciting new feature available on select models is JVC's exclusive Live Slow feature that for the first time makes it possible to record slow motion images and play them back with real-time sound. In addition, footage shot at normal speed can be played back in slow motion with real-time sound. Live Slow is ideal for playing back and enjoying hard-to-see moments because the speed is one-quarter of normal playback speed. Scenes can be shot in Live Slow with the press of a button, and the footage will be recorded in slow motion. Live Slow is available in all of JVC's new camcorders with the exception of the Compact Series GR-D250 and Ultra-Compact Series GR-DF430.
New JVC camcorder series feature a design that makes them easy to take along and easy to use. All new JVC MiniDV camcorders feature the one-touch convenience of the new data battery function that displays battery power and calculates remaining recording time with the power on or off to prevent users from running out of power during mid-shooting. Also, to make shooting easier, JVC's clear-view LCD monitor suppresses diffusion of internal light to deliver a brighter, clearer image, and also reduces reflection and glare from external light so that images are always clearly visible even when shooting outdoors in bright sunlight.
For superior image quality, all JVC MiniDV camcorders feature a super high-band processor that restores the high-band components of the luminance signal to ensure a crisp, clear picture. Advanced models include a 1.33-megapixel CCD for 540 lines of horizontal resolution, while entry-level models feature a 680,000 pixel CCD that delivers 520 lines of resolution.
JVC’s commitment to image quality is further evidenced in its MiniDV camcorders' ability to capture digital stills with no motion blur. This year all models, with the exception of the entry level GR-D250 and GR-DF430, offer a progressive shutter that allows stills to be captured by the entire frame, eliminating the blur that occurs when separate fields are combined to form a frame. In addition, the 1.33 megapixel models can capture 27 percent more visual information than 680,000 pixel cameras, providing images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels.
Throughout JVC's MiniDV line, the camcorders are designed with the PC in mind, offering multiple PC connection options, including USB and iLink (IEEE 1394) DV cable.

Customer Reviews
Easy to use, no problems
Nice camcorder for price. The audio sounds fine to me. Zoom is excellent. I connected the camera using firewire to my DVD recorder and it works great, very simple. I am able to easily make copies to DVD of what we created. The onscreen guide is farily easy to navigate through to find what you are looking for. If you want to be able to film and then transfer to DVD, I highly recommend this camera along with buying a DVD recorder, much easier than using a PC. Prices on DVD recorders are now very affordable.
Close to professional quality for a consumer camera
This camera has a lot of great attributes and produces great sound and audio quality, like the other reviewers have mentioned. However, I think it should be noted that the lens cap comes off very easily (i.e. it never stays on). It's not such a big problem that I would change my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars--it's just an inconvenience. Make sure you have a good case, or at least a secure method of storing the camera, that protects the lens.
Good Bang for the Buck
Bought this for my husbands birthday, he loves it. Lots of features and good quality pics. Only one complaint, still photo button is right next to record button. We keep pressing the still instead of record! Fits in the palm of hand, great little camera. All in all a good value. Trying to find an external battery charger.
