In a dark section of london an eccentric scientist has created a powerful death ray whose light beams can destroy an entire army in a matter of seconds. His purpose is to use this incredible power for good but his unscrupulous associate rolf alferson has other ideas. Alferson murders the scientist by utilizing a deadly poison and plans to sell the ray gun to the highest bidder. Suave detective hugh "bulldog" drummond discovers the killing and takes the case with his usual sharp eye and flair for the tongue-in-cheek. He soon finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when scotland yard accuses him of murder. Having gained fame for his performance beside ronald coleman in 1937s lost horizon drummond was for howard what sherlock holmes and the falcon were for basil rathbone and tom conway. Arrest bulldog drummond contains more sci-fi elements than usual in films of this nature and also features veteran horror movie star george zucco (the mummys hand voodoo man the flying serpent). Enjoyable!
If you like the old time detective and adventure films, you should like this one. It is also a rare one, for its not being on any compilation type mystery discs.

Watch out for the stinger
Capt. Hugh Chesterton 'Bulldog' Drummond (John Howard) is engaged and about to be married to Phyllis Clavering (Heather Angel.) However he has to put it off as he is the suspect in a murder. The real murderer bumps off a scientist, beware of the stinger, who invented a laser type death ray that is designed to blow up gunpowder from a distance.

Will Bulldog get the bad guys before they can hatch their insidious plot? Or will Col. J.A. Nielsen, "don't call me inspector', incarcerate Bulldog?

Phyllis takes a positive role and the bad guys anticipate her interference.

The recording of this film is "z" you would never guess that in the same year they made "Gone with the Wind".
