Customer Reviews

dissappointed.1
I have taken a few modern dance classes but I am not experienced at all, so I wanted to get this hip hop dance DVD to learn some moves and maybe even use it as a exercise DVD. I read about 20 reviews and most of the reviews were negative toned but still their was a glimpse of hope that it would be okey. Then I recieved the DVD and I was very DISSAPPOINTED. As the other reviewers warned me about how the entire DVD only show cased how great Darrin was and name drop the whole DVD, it wasn't that bad ...but it is true. You never really see the whole movement and the camera angles are always half body shots so you never really see what they are doing.
Then when he does fo a new dance routine he does it quickly once. Then he proceeds to say what the moves are again but only speaks about them without any body movement so you are totally lost. Then he does it again in regular dance speed with his annoying 1234567..8! counts that dosn't even follow the movements. Truely you are better off getting the Music video to Britney or whoever Darrin choreographed for and try to imitate those moves on the music video.
This DVD is terrible and I would't reccommend even a friend to borrow it. It is a waste of time. I am sure Darrin is a great Dancer but who ever helped him to make this DVD should of been fired. He should of got counseling in making this DVD from a aerobics director then I am sure it would of been great. Sorry guys, but you should pass on this DVD, unless you like to waste money.

Don't Buy It!1
I had this DVD right when it came out years ago. I think I tried watching it once or twice but did not even get through watching it all because I was so frustrated. I was in dance and thought I picked up dances pretty quickly, but I'm not superhuman! First of all, the dancers and Darrin are facing you, so you have to first try to figure out the move, then make it backwards; even if you decide to mirror their image, it's confusing because Darrin always says directional cues, so it doesn't work if you try to mirror them. Then, you better get the move right the first time because there is no hope for you if you don't get the move down perfectly immediately. It's a joke. The lack of repeating any moves before moving on is incredibly frustrating and difficult, even for experienced dancers. I felt like I was watching a dance class practice their routine that they have done a million times...like they were showing off and not concerned about the viewer trying to learn the dance. RIDICULOUS! I got so annoyed after trying to learn the dances when I found the DVD years later, I literally bent the DVD in half and threw it away. I thought if I pawned it off, it wouldn't be fair to the poor soul who bought it.

Don't waste your time with Darrin's Dance Grooves1
I have wanted this DVD for years, thinking it looks really fun to do. I was extremely disappointed when I received it as a gift. For one, although the product description says you'll learn these three dances, you only learn the chorus to the three songs mentioned here--not the whole dances.

Secondly, the video moves way too fast for a novice and even a somewhat experienced dancer.

Third, the video shots are terrible--for example, he's teaching you the moves and the camera angle is only showing his upper body while his lower body is moving (and you can't see it).

Fourth, he doesn't mirror the viewer- he says "right" and uses his right, which means it's opposite for the person viewing it (you'd intuitively want to mirror him, using your left, but it adds confusion).

Lastly, the instruction is just plain bad. I have dance experience, and this was beyond horrible--he just counts (not easy for someone without experience especially) and doesn't describe or say anything about the movements. Just "1, 2, 3..." as he dances with it.

I'd highly recommend the Jamie King Rock Your Body DVD over this one!
