HERO!!! HERO!!!HERO!!!5
What we have here is an authentic 21st century parable! The setting is in the modern world(a world that has never experienced the presence or ministry of the promised Messiah), the world is ruled by I.C.O.N.(the Roman Empire), Hero(Jesus) is born to the virgin Mama Mary(Mary,Mother of Jesus) in Bethlehem,PA, makes disciples out of a White supremacist,Petrov(Simon Peter), Jude(Judas Iscariot), Maggie(Mary Magdalene), raises the daughter of drug kingpin Jairus(Jairus), and goes against the religious grain and gets under the skin of Chief Rabbi Kai(Caiaphas) in the process until he's ultimately betrayed into the hands of I.C.O.N., is executed, only to be found "missing from the city morgue" three days later. but I'm not gonna give it away...BUY THE DVD.This production provides a combination of rock & hip hop, lots of food for thought and addresses the question "what if Christ had not come until NOW?" On top of that, there's a gospel message told in contemporary fashion via some of the best in Christian music performers, producers and writers. I also recommend the HERO soundtrack and graphich novel. Hero is a classic for all time and for all ages and generations...A MUST HAVE FOR ANY WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SHARING THE CHRIST STORY IN A MODERN LIGHT(or for those who've followed the musical ministries of Michael Tait, Rebecca St. James, T-Bone,Donnie Lewis of Raze, etc). I must warn you...Donnie Lewis of Raze SHOWS OUT AT THE END...Forefront Records needs to hold on to her and put her to work on her own release.

Did Someone Say BLASPHEMY?5
We're all entitled to our opinions on this production, as is our right, but with all due respect...my challenge to those who critiqued HERO as BLASPHEMOUS is not only to compare it to scripture(matching the heart of HERO with the heart of CHRIST) but also to consider the context. If HERO had been touring in the 1st century, then perhaps it would've been considered extreme within the cultural context of the day...but had Jesus not come to earth until today, in a 21st century context ruled by the Roman Empire(excuse me, ICON) for the past 2000 years or so, He would've found drugs, hip hop, rock, vain religion, violence, famine, war, unemployment, homelessness, and many other issues we face today. And He would've dealt with today's problems as He did with yesterday's problems.Mending today's broken hearts, healing the wounded, restoring life, and ultimately dying for the sins of the world. To see this production as a satanic device is to miss the point...that as dark as modern society has become, Jesus would still come to earth and take our sins upon Himself so that we, old and new school, won't have to die twice. On top of that...this film also challenges racial/religious presuppositions as found within church buildings all over the world.I've said it once and I'll say it again...HERO IS A STEP FWD FOR ALL CHRISTIANS. SELAH(pause and think about that, critics).

I need to see this live!5
I bought this yesterday and just finished seeing it. It's great. I knew precious little about the songs or exactly what I was going to see when I pushed "play" on my dvd player. I don't need to tell about the story, the reviewer before me does a very good job doing so. This is a very well thought out production and implementation of the story of Jesus in modern day NYC. Superb choreography. Here's the problem though: as a play, it was meant to be seen live, not on dvd. I enjoyed the dvd but it only made me wish the entire time I was watching it that I was in the audience.

Oh, well. I suppose this dvd is the next best thing-and it was pretty good. I guess I've got to get the cd now and learn he songs.

Michael Tait was incredible, as I expected him to be. A surprise here: I'm not the biggest fan of Rebecca St. James but I am now. She was very good in the play. T-Bone-I have to find out what he sounds like on one of his cds now.

Excellent. Live: way,way excellent I'm sure.
