From the Manufacturer
Everything you need to begin your Holga career is right here at your quivering fingertips. With the Lomography Holga 120 CFN Medium Format Camera with Color Flash Starter kit you can read through a manual cover-to-cover, pour over the full-color poster, and then wipe your sweaty, excited brow, pop in the batteries, load up the film, square your jaw, tape up the seams, squint your eyes, breathe slowly and evenly, and release the shutter to the iconic Lomography Holga 120. You are on your way to absolutely magnificent photos.
The Lomography Holga 120 has a gaggle of tasty new features. A color wheel tints your flash with yellow, red, blue, or clear gels. A "B" setting holds the shutter open for dreamy, natural background/flashed foreground images, or pure nighttime long exposures. A tripod nut keeps your Holga steady, and a new 6 x 6 plastic mask yields tighter, sharper images.
Features:
Color Flash
The incredible color-flash technology--responsible for quite a lot of heat and bother among the Lomographic crowd--has now been extended to the iconic medium-format Holga. Using a combination of colored flash light and a long shutter exposure, this revolutionary item can create some of the most mind-blowing images that you have ever seen. When this new functionality is paired with the Holga's already hectic characteristics (soft focus, light leaks, vignetting), the results are devastating.
Color Flash Wheel
A plastic wheel assembly inside the flash allows you to choose one of three permanently mounted color gels (yellow, blue, red) or a clear flash. For ease and pleasure, the colors are labeled on top of the camera as well.
"B" Shutter Setting and Tripod Thread
The "Bulb" setting allows you to hold open the shutter for as long as you like. Just keep the release button depressed, and the shutter will continue to exposure your image. This is nice for two reasons: (1) shake-free long-exposures and (2) long-exposure flash effects. In the first case, you can use your Holga to take stunning night shots, filled with streaming ambient light. Just hold the shutter open for about 5 seconds on a city street, and use a tripod (screwed into the tripod thread) for maximum clarity. In the second case, your Holga can be employed for gorgeous flash portraits. Using the "B" setting, activate the flash and aim it at your subject. This has to be done in low light! After the flash fires, hold the shutter release down for a half a second to several seconds. The result: a beautiful dual-effect image with a crisp, flashed foreground and a streaked, natural-light background.
6 x 6 Interior Mask
Traditionally, the Holga used a small plastic mask to take 6 x 4.5 images. This reduced the maximum area inside the camera to a rectangular portrait format. It also served to keep the film tight, protect it from scratches, and hold the batteries inside. Those who chose to shoot the square 6 x 6 format (basically everyone who wanted to really shoot with Holga), had to suffer through rough-shod film and falling batteries. No more! The new 6 x 6 mask, like its 6 x 4.5 brother, keeps everything in place.
What's in the Box

Customer Reviews
Don't pay $50 for this camera
My main point in writing this review is that you can get this camera for much, much cheaper by buying it used or elsewhere.
The Holga is fun and I know many people who swear by it. While I personally have never been extremely into lomography/"plastic fantastic" cameras, if you are this is a good camera and the advantage of using medium format film is wonderful. Also there are scores of websites that will tell you all the ways you can modify your Holga. So have fun! But seriously, there's almost no reason why not to buy this item used. I would not pay more than $20 for it.
Simple fun photography
I've been seriously into photography since 1999. I've had a few pictures published in magazines and I've even had some embassies buy my work. There are days when my photography feels like work and kind of stresses me out. Well I've found my little fix for days like that. The Holga camera's are perfect for fun photography. My best personal photo's have come from a Holga and it was all when I was just flipping away and not worrying too much about the composition of the shot or the exposure. The color flash adds another spin to an already fun camera. I love to use the flash in the daytime up close to my subjects (The blue flash on the beach gives an awesome feel to a photo).
My only complaint is the hassle of loading and unloading the film and the cheap feel to it, but then again it's a 'toy' camera so I guess that's part of the experince.
I recomend this (more so with the 35mm version) to anyone just looking to bring fun back into their photography.
Holga fan!!
These camera's are great for enthusiasts! I gifted my roomate this one for christmas (as I already own one, and she borrows it from time to time). We are both photo majors, and it's easy to get swept up in new technology. Sometimes its benificial to go back to your roots ;)
