Editorial Reviews

Album Description
Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to one of the biggest coups in the history of *Collectors' Choice Music*: the complete (except for their Christmas record) Everly Brothers album catalog on Warner Bros.! *Only six of these 15 LPs have ever been reissued on CD*, and they are presented here complete with original album artwork and new notes by our resident '60s rock aficionado, Richie Unterberger. The Everly Brothers matched their maiden *It's Everly Time!* masterpiece for Warner Bros. with their second album for the label, which also went to #9 on the charts and displayed the duo's signature blend of rock, country and pop at its finest. *Cathy's Clown* is the obvious highlight, but every song here is top-notch.

A Date With The Everly Brothers- The Everly Brothers5
Classic Everly's CD. Not a bad song on it.

A Date With The Everly Brothers5
Had original LP but it got scratched badly from too much playing it. When the opportunity came up to purchase it on CD is greate.

Nonessential but very good5
The big hit here is "Cathy's Clown" on this Warner Brothers LP re-issue which is in stereo.
However, the other songs on this cd are excellent examples of Don & Phil's style on very catchy pop rock beat songs with a few ballads that highlight their harmonic singing. Some of the songs are written by one or both of the brothers: "Cathy's Clown", "Made To Love" (a hit for Eddie Hodges), "Sigh, Cry, Almost Die", and"That's Just Too Much".

Most of the other songs are written by Boudleaux Bryant and his wife Felice Bryant who wrote hits for The Everly Brothers when they were on the Cadence label. Add in a cover of Little Richard's "Lucille" and an early Mel Tillis song, "Stick With Me Baby", and you have a collection of songs that while nonessential to collectors are very good examples of well crafted sometimes not often heard songs that are hard not to listen to and well worth the time and price.

The classic "Love Hurts" written by Boudleaux Bryant is one of the two versions of the song recorded by The Everlys and later a hit by Nazareth in the 70s. Roy Orbison also recorded "Love Hurts" around this time.
