Product Description

Flash and cash. Sex and style. Power and prestige. All it takes is a Nip/Tuck. The acclaimed series at TV's cutting edge continues in a Deluxe 16-Episode Season Two Set on six discs with Revealing Enhancements. Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon return as the elite plastic surgery team of McNamara/Troy, whose skill at giving others perfect bodies contrasts with the doctors' imperfect personal lives. From love (Troy falls for a self-assured blind woman) to lust (McNamara dates a porn star), from painful revelations (a secret from the past shatters the practice) to powerful moments (conjoined adults seek the doctors' help) to astonishing truths (a New Age "life coach" hides what ultimately can't be hidden), this second-season operation is a total success. Thank you, doctors!

It's time for a follow-up appointment at McNamara-Troy, Florida's hottest--and most dysfunctional--plastic surgery center, and the setting for the controversial television drama Nip/Tuck, which gives audiences a peek into the professional and private lives of two driven doctors and their (mostly female) patients. If the first season had its share of shocking visuals and storylines, viewers should probably strap themselves into their easy chairs for the events in season 2. In addition to the usual offbeat medical issues (the team gives a man breasts, reconstructs a woman's sexual organs, restores a host of gruesome mutilations, and comes very close to undoing Joan Rivers's face work), Drs. McNamara (Dylan Walsh) and Troy (Julian McMahon) must deal with a vicious serial killer known as the Carver, a vengeful former patient (Jill Clayburgh), a woman with alleged stigmata, and a life coach (Famke Janssen) who reveals a stunning secret past--all in the course of just 16 episodes. Guest turns by Alec Baldwin, Vanessa Redgrave (the real-life mother to series regular Joely Richardson), and Sarah Paulson (Deadwood) compliment the already high-quality performances by the cast, and the episodes seem to have ditched the glibness of season 1 in favor of a more serious tone, which makes for a more uniformly enjoyable watching experience. As with the season 1 set, The Complete Second Season includes several extras, most notably 45 minutes of deleted scenes, and a featurette titled "Recurring Pain," which explores the relationships between three female characters and Dr. Troy. --Paul Gaita

Truly great TV5
The second season of FX's Nip/Tuck went above and beyond the conventions set during it's first season, with plenty of shocks and surprises for all involved. Beginning with Christian (Julian McMahon, soon to be seen as the villainous Dr. Doom in Fantastic Four) fighting for custody of the son he knows isn't his, while Sean (Dylan Walsh) ponders over hitting the big four 0. Eventually, Sean comes across a mysterious "life coach" (Famke Janssen) who soon begins a dangerous affair with Sean's oldest son. This leads to a shocking revelation for Sean, Christian, and Sean's wife Julia (the teriffic Arly Jover) that soon becomes one of the most gut wrenchingly heartbreaking moments on TV today. But it doesn't end there. Christian comes face to face with the possibility that he might be HIV positive, and Sean comes face to face with a knife wielding masked would be killer after he does some pro bono work for victims mutilated by him. All this ends in a season ending cliffhanger that will have you salivating for season three, which hopefully, will be just as surprising. The personal demons of Sean and Christian are what really drive Nip/Tuck, while the incredibly realistic plastic surgery scenes will either help draw you in or completely repel you. Over the course of these episodes, the characters are deconstructed more than one could ever think possible, but the great cast and twisty storytelling will keep you addicted. All in all, Nip/Tuck really became something special in it's second season (there's a reason it's garnered so much acclaim and accolades), and this is definitely the definition of must see TV.

Engaging, very addictive5
I stumbled upon Nip/Tuck by accident and stayed on purpose. It has to be some of the best stuff on television today. It's not even the subject matter or graphic scenes depicting plastic surgery procedures, that's just there to calm things down a bit. The real shock value comes from the relationships and personalities which can be obsessively engaging. I am especially drawn to the interrelations between Christian and Sean, best friends since college and now partners in their prominent and very successful plastic surgery practice. Christian's outward demeanor is all ego but inside he's just a scared little boy in search of love. He has morals although they stay well hidden and are rarely used. Okay, maybe they just aren't there but he's really handsome, very easy on the eyes and fun to watch, even if it's just as a warning of the type of guy to stay clear of.
Sean seems to struggle with everything, thinks too deeply and is as much of an egotist as his partner but with a little more heart. Everyone in this drama is damaged to some degree but all seem to be seeking redemption which makes it watchable and even endearing in a strange way. As in "Six Feet Under," the cast makes you a little more appreciative of your own problems which seem to shrink in comparison each time you tune in.
I love this show!

Season 3 CANNOT GET HERE SOON ENOUGH!!!5
Idly, one night, I was tuned in to FX, and this show with the bad guy turned good from "Charmed" was on. My wife told me to leave it on because she was a fan of "Charmed". Ever since that night, I have been an ENORMOUS fan of NIP/TUCK. Quite simply, there isn't a better show on television. It's as depraved and sordid as a bad soap opera, but with infinitely better writing, directing and, most of all, acting. Dylan Walsh is great as Sean, who even when he's doing the right thing sometimes seems to be the wrong thing. Joely Richardson is wonderful as the troubled but self-absorbed Julia, who just can't seem to choose what she wants more: A life of luxurious lifelessness or an exciting, passionate romance with the one man who truly loves her. And of course, there's that guy from "Charmed". JULIAN MCMAHON RULES THIS SHOW. It's just that simple. Christian Troy is one of the best characters ever to grace the small screen. A wonderfully hedonistic, and often times, cruel man who no matter how hard he tries just can't seem to mask the good in him. Really what makes this show work above all others is its relationship between Sean and Christian. Their love for each other is so strong that they know that one without the other is just incomplete. In many ways, Sean and Christian are the couple and Julia is the other woman.

Between this show, RESCUE ME, and THE SHIELD, FX is putting out the best series on television.

I'm not going to give anything away here, but as the screen cut to black and the credits rolled on the season finale, I am certain a scream could be heard throughout the United States. Possibly Canada. Just to allay your fears, that was ME!!!!! September cannot get here soon enough.
