Amazon.com Product Description
Finding a wall stud behind sheet rock or paneling used to be a hit and miss routine, but the new Zircon stud finders have taken the "miss" out of the equation. Zircon's i700 MultiScanner OneStep not only locates the wood or metal studs but the i700 scanner also finds the exact center of the stud and will warn the user if there are "hot" AC electrical wires in or near the stud and even wiring that is incased in plastic conduit. Added features include auto recalibration to insure accuracy, a large backlit LCD floating display head to prevent tilting and non-marring pads to protect the wall's finish.

Included are an "integrated erasable marker for one-hand operation" and a setting that allows the user to search exclusively for metal pipes. The "auto on" feature of the i700 automatically powers up when the unit is pressed against the wall's surface and the dual SpotLite feature and auto signal will indicate the exact center of the stud even when working in low light conditions. Use the i700 to hang cabinets, pictures, mirrors, and shelves or to install ceiling fans, grab bars, and chandeliers. You can also use the i700 to locate metal pipes behind tile or in concrete or to find conduit, rebar, electrical boxes, exhaust vents, and ducting. An important safety feature of the i700 is its ability to continuously locate and trace hot wires behind walls, floors, and ceilings. --D. Barnett

Works great even on plaster!5
When a heavy duty (read: HEAVY) pot rack needed hanging in the kitchen, it was critical that I hit the studs. With an older house, plaster walls are always a hassle with stud finders, and they usually just don't work. With the Zircon i700, I was able to identify and locate the stud centers even underneath my plaster and lathe ceiling! All 4 marks were right on the money, and my pot rack could hold a moose! I'm absolutely impressed with the quality of this unit (My original intent was to return it after hanging the pot rack, but it worked so well I'm keeping it!) The unit includes a built in pushbutton pencil, to allow you to locate and mark the center of studs one handed, without searching for a pencil. It even comes with a nice case, and the battery! If you need a stud finder, and like me, are tired of the JUNK, get THIS stud finder, it'll last you a lifetime!

If you only had three hands2
ok..I read all the reviews and just dont get their raving over this product. If you can hold it down right it works but this is not that easy when it is over your head. For those of you who dont know how this thing works here is a quick run down. hold the top portion on the wall. Not over a stud because it calibrates when it turns on and if it is on a stud then it will read wrong. The top and the bottom section swivel independant from each other . you hold the top next to the wall and push down on the bottom and it turns on. if you lift the bottom just a little it turns off and you have to start over. I think the Ziroc scanner are a good product just not this setup.I returned mine and got the model a step down that is all one case and doesnt swivel.

The only stud finder I've found that works!4
I've gone through numerous stud finders and up until getting the Multiscanner my conclusion was that knocking, drilling, or one of the old fashioned magnet based ones were far superior. It took me a while to get a feel for the Multiscanner but once I did it was wonderful. Now I can locate studs dead-on on both wallboard and plaster. I emphasize that it takes a little practice because at first my impression was that it was just another useless stud finder. Remember to go slowly and hold it vertical and make sure you have calibrated it by placing it over wall space that does not have a stud behind it. You may have to recalibrate it several times during a scan. When the red light comes on you are on the center of the stud. Go back and forth over the stud if you're not sure and you will see both edges and the light comes on at dead center. There's a handy marking device that will put a mark on the wall in a one handed operation. I dismiss the negative reviews because I think the posters just didn't get the hang of it. I can't say this is the best stud finder on the market; it's just the best one I have ever used. All the rest are junk to me. I give it four stars because the five star stud finder hasn't been invented yet.
