Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
With his sophomore release, the Georgia singer reinforces the trend toward redneck beefcake, matching a bare-chested sleeve photo with material such as the album-opening "I Wanna Be a Hillbilly" (apparently a hillbilly with a penchant for screaming, arena-rock guitars). He engages in some pillow talk with the breathy balladry of "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right" and takes a turn toward a dreamier romanticism with "She's Got a Way With Me," featuring vocal support from Michael McDonald. A straightforward revival of Kenny Rogers's "Lucille" connects country present with country past, while the reggae tinge of "Little Bit Lonely" jumps on the contemporary country & Caribbean boat. The genial charm that he brings to mid-tempo fare such as "Good Directions" (despite its hackneyed story of the city girl who falls for the country hunk), "That Changes Everything," and "Here I Am" suggests that Currington is more engaging when he isn't trying so hard to be so sexy. --Don McLeese

Maverick - 3 out of 4 Stars - October 2005
An excellent album from a Nashville face who knows his country roots.

People Magazine - 3 Out of 4 Stars - 10/31/05
Backed by a zoned-in group of musicians, Currington keeps his voice as well as his head in the right place.

Great second effort5
If you only know Billy Currington from "Party For Two," his hit duet with Shania Twain, you need to expand your horizons and check out his 2003 self-titled debut and this latest gem, which reveal what Currington is really capable of vocally and stylistically.

DOIN' SOMETHIN' RIGHT opens and closes with foot stompers ("I Wanna Be A Hillbilly," "She Knows What To Do With A Saturday Night") which will have you dancing in the streets (or at least at your local honkytonk). It between, we get a somewhat gentler Billy, with the title track/lead off single providing a relaxed yet heartfelt delivery, and a lusty "Little Bit Lonely" plus "Here I Am" showcasing incredible charisma.

"Good Directions" is the type of down home, good ol' boy number that Kenny Chesney succeeds with (again and again and again). Billy's remake of "Lucille" is a nice update, hitting a little harder than Kenny Rogers' original, while a collaboration with Michael McDonald on "She's Got A Way With Me" offers a power ballad change of pace.

Hopefully, this diverse collection will elevate Billy to the next level on the country music food chain. It's a fine effort that clearly avoids the sophomore jinx.

Redeeming CD5
I like one or two of Billy Currington's first songs; however, I think his duet w/ Shania Twain actually hurt him. This CD compiles a great mix of songs - good country twang with a little motown, fast and slower paced songs.
I have gotten more discriminating in CD purchasing since I can simply download songs I really like as opposed to shelling out $12-15 for a mediocre CD, but I got hooked on Doing Something Right and had to have this CD. I have not regretted the purchase. Usually I only end up liking one or two songs on a CD but this CD is great overall.
I can only hope that Billy Currington will release more songs off this CD - Good Directions, She's Got a Way with Me.

EVERYTHING IS RIGHT WITH THIS CD!!5
Received my cd in the mail this past week and I haven't been able to stop listening to it! This is a great CD and every song is awesome! The current release "Must Be Doin Somethin Right" is a great song and Billy's voice sounds incredible. This CD has it all - from slow & sexy to rockin songs! For me a stand out song is a song that Billy co-wrote with Michael McDonald called "She's Got a Way With Me". Michael also sings background vocals on this song and he and Billy's voice sound great together! Other great songs are Hillbilly, Good Directions, Little Bit Lonely, Whole Lot More, Here I Am, She Knows What to Do with a Saturday Night!!! I highly recommend this CD, you won't be sorry that you bought it!

P.S. And the only thing better than listening to the CD is hearing Billy perform the songs live! Go see him when he comes to your town - you won't be disappointed!!
