Unfortunately not as good as i expected
As I say in my title, this album was not as good as I expected it to be. Having been introjeced to Ginny Owens by the track Fellow Traveler, which is on the album, i expected the rest of the album to follow this standard as in, have tracks which were simular. it does at times, but then toehrsothers, Owens sings in what i can only describe as a "put on" jazz type voice doesn'doesn't suit her at all. it also takes away from the tone of the album, a little disappointment i would have to say at points when this occurs. I do not listne to the tracks
Overall, sometimes good, sometimes not so much..
Earlier was better
I have so enjoyed Miss Owens' songs. "Own Me" is a particular favorite. This albumn just didn't click with me...
Disappointingly Mellow
I became a fan of Ginny Owens with the release for her first CD 10 years ago. As much as I've tried, I have never gotten into this release.
The problem with the release comes with the style. It's way too bluesy and mellow and misses much of the peppy pop I so enjoyed on her earlier releases. Yes, they had some blues to them as well, but those songs worked. Here, it just gets overdone and rather boring.
Don't get me wrong, there are some tracks I enjoy here. "Waiting for Tomorrow" starts things off with a nice peppy beat as it reminds us to live today instead of only looking for happiness in the future. "Wonderful Wonder" is a great praise song to the God who spoke our world into existence. "Live Once" has a fun jazzy beat as Ginny reminds us to not waste our lives.
But those songs are balanced out by the others. "Long Way Home" is way too slow and boring to listen to. "Tyranny" and "Pieces" are attempts to include a little pop, but they aren't enjoyable to listen to either.
It really is disappointing to see out on such an uneven note. Die hard fans will find some moments to enjoy, but casual fans won't find it worth listening to.
