Definitive Collection? Maybe not, but a great overview for the fan and curious alike
Should a Definitive Collection include EVERY single video? Maybe not. But in Def Leppard's case, the ratio of videos made to worldwide hits was more than 1 out of 2, so a collection with 20 videos out of 39 made will definitely miss some important videos.
Of course you can find ALL their videos in the previous DVD compilations: Visualize/ Video Archive and Hystoria/ In The Round In Your Face (both themselves compilations of previously released VHS).
What no other Def Leppard DVD includes that this one does is the new video for No Matter What and the band's audio commentary for each of the tracks released here. The video for Now is included in the recent British DVD release called The Best of, which also includes Long Long Way To Go, the second video from their X album which would have been a great addition to this DVD.
So, in the plus side, you get a choice of their best videos plus one brand new video (No Matter What) and another never released in the US (Now). Also, you get the band's commentary. Owning the aforementioned DVDs the band's commentary was the MAIN reason in getting this, and it's worth it. You'll hear both serious comments about the locations, the shoot, the directors, the schedule for each video. Also, some funny tidbits of the Leps acknowledging their own infamous anecdotes, and mostly, watching in amazement the long way of the videoclip as a medium in the 20 plus years they have taken full advantage of it. The show they are serious about having fun, even if it means making fun of themselves.
On the downside, there are some key videos missing, like the UK version of "Sugar" or the masterful epic version of "When Love and Hate Collide". However, you can find them on other Lepps DVDs, and at a price of less than $15, this is a great DVDeal!
On Through The Night: 0 videos on this DVD out of 1 available form this album (missing Hello America)
High N' Dry: 1/5 Bringin' On The Heartbreak (three live videos, plus Me and My Wine)
Pyromania: 3/5 Photograph, Rock Of Ages, Foolin' (Rock, Rock Till You Drop; Too Late For Love)
Hysteria: 7/8 Animal, Women, Rocket, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Armageddon It, Love Bites, Hysteria (alternate version of "Sugar")
Adrenalize: 2/7 Let's Get Rocked, Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad
Retroactive: 1/3 Two Steps Behind (Action, Miss You in a Heartbeat)
Vault: 1/2 When Love And Hate Collide (Epic 8 minute version of this same song)
Slang: 2/3 Slang, Work It Out (All I Want Is Everything)
Euphoria: 1/2 Promises (Goodbye)
X: 1/2 Now (Long Long Way To Go)
Plus No Matter What (which is labeled as "studio rehearsal" but it's actually a neat little videoclip).
Still, this DVD is the perfect companion to their recent double CD: Rock of Ages. If you love Lep and have their other DVDs buy this for the band commentary and the two new videos. If you like Lep and don't have any DVD, well then you are in luck, purchase this one, it's amazing!
Fantastic!
This a great collection of videos! Definitely a must for all Def Leppard fans. I love the band's commentary. I laughed out loud several times and fell off my chair when the "Bringing on the Heartbreak" video segment was explained by the band, then clad in hooded, masked Hannibal Lechter style garb whilst rowing a crucified Joe Elliot on a boat in the middle of a freezing cold night on a lake. God bless the eighties! LOL Get this DVD, you won't regret it.
GREAT COMMENTARY FROM THE BAND
This is a must have for all Def Leppard fans, even if you have their other DVD's...This DVD features the Leps talking about each video as the video is playing. It's hilarious to listen to their stories. And, the bonus No Matter What video from their rehearsals is great! LOVE IT! It's worth getting it!!
