It works, but performance is sub-par
This DVD burner is very convenient to istall: all a user has to do is load the software from a CD and plug the drive into the USB port. It does work reasonably well, although it won't meet it's advertised speed rating. I've tried it with several different kinds of 16X disks, and the best it can do is 8X.

I tried to check the firmwere version, but there's no way to talk to the drive to read the version number, and the supplied Auto-Upgrade software doesn't work anyway. I bought the drive because of a very generous $50 reabate offer, but the old axiom is true: you get what you pay for.

Next time, I'll buy a recognized name brand with good industry reviews and pay less attention to a cheap price.
