Really fine Bill Evans trio concert
I have listened to almost all of the Bill Evans CD's you could buy, ALL the official ones, and many bootlegs. Recently I bought this one (Live in Switzerland 1975) and also, 'Live in Paris 1972', from Amazon. This one (Live in Switzerland 1975) is much better. The audio quality is major label quality, superbly present and clear, and the playing seems much more 'happening' than the 'Live in Paris 1972' discs. Also, a lot of time I don't necessarily get happy with Eddie Gomez's playing, but here, he sounds pretty hot and happening to me. The applause sounds like a small room of about 40 people in the audience. Recommended!

Excellent Performance
In this group of imports from Gambit with the Bill Evan Trio, the '75 "Live in Switzerland" is one of the best. Bill Evans (p) and Eddie Gomez (b) are at the top of their form in their long collaboration and Eliot Zigmund (d) is a great addition among the various drummers that played with trio. The largest group of single pieces are Evans' including "Time Mentioned", "Waltz For Debby", "Twelve Toned Tune", Tune Out the Stars, etc. Scott LaFaro's "Gloria's Step" is also an added treat. The engineering is solid and the notes are detailed with respect to Evan's discography.

Bill Evans Redux
First, let me make a critical correction: Track 12 of this record, "Yesterday I Heard the Rain" is attributed to Cole Porter in the CD's booklet, and above to Evans and Porter. The composer of this tune, (as well as "It's Impossible") is the Mexican pianist, arranger and composer Armando Manzanero. Having set the record straight, this CD provided a pleasant surprise to me. Evans fans (and I am one, believe me) must have umpteenth versions of Gloria's Step, T.T.T., Waltz for Debby and My Romance. When I was about to buy it, I thought "well, I might as well hear another..." I was wrong. It might have been the mood of the night, the new drummer or the inspired bass playing of Eddie, but Bill Evans turned out excellent variations of those themes, and the other ones included. "Yesterday I Heard the Rain" (Esta Tarde Ví Llover)is a gorgeous composition, and the trio here gives it a very warm, vibrant treatment. I had heard it only once before, in the Japan Concert album, and this version surpasses that one. In short, I've enjoyed this CD thoroughly and fully. Highly Recommended.
