Soprano Renata Tebaldi and tenor Franco Corelli were two of the most exciting singers to emerge from Italy in the period following the Second World War, and each played a major role in defining that period as a"Golden Age." Tebaldi possessed a voice of angelic beauty, which encompassed the entire dynamic range, from a delicate pianissimo to a brilliantly focused forte. Corelli’s voice was freely produced from top to bottom, capable of ringing out in thrilling declamation, as well as caressinga melodic line in rich, warm tone. Both Tebaldi and Corelli exuded great measures of charm, charisma, glamour and refinement, traits which are fully evident in these rare television performances. Telecast of February 2, 1959: Puccini / Un bel di vedremo (from Madama Butterfly), Puccini / Vissi d’arte (from Tosca), Puccini / Donde lieta usci (from La Bohéme). Renata Tebaldi, soprano, Eric Leinsdorf, conductor. Telecast of June 2, 1963: Mascagni / Brindisi and Addio alla Madre (from Cavalleria Rusticana); Wolf-Ferrari / Ballet Music (from Jewels of the Madonna); di Capua / l’Te Vurria Vasa; Puccini / Non piangere, Lìu (from Turandot); D’Annibale / O Paese d’ o Sole. Franco Corelli, tenor, Wilfrid Pelletier, conductor.

Corelli's Magic
This is in response to A. Boss's comments on this DVD. On the contrary, I found the sound quality more than acceptable for a recording of this age. What makes this DVD so compelling is the majesty of Franco Corelli. The viewer will experience the range of Corelli's magic, in a variety of operatic scenes and special arrangements. For those who want to experience an opera legend at the top of his form, I highly recommend this DVD. A. Boss should stick to recent recordings, running the risk of listening to lesser singers with dubious talent often found today.
More interesting as history than as great music
This is an old recording from the Voice of Firestone TV program of the late 1950s and early 1960s. TV audio of that period was poor by today's standards and, although the singers (especially Corelli) sing well, the poor recording quality of that period is shown in this DVD, which is in mono even though the DVD says it is in Dolby 2.0.
It is interesting to see the much greater variety of commercial TV programing we had back then. The Voice of Firestone was one of a number of weekly classical music featured on comercial TV.
