La historia se realiza en la Alta California mexicana de hace unos siglos, donde el gobernador, como defensor de la ley, se dispone a ahorcar a Diego como lo ha dispuesto el tribunal real. Diego escapa gracias a la ayuda de su enamorada Margo, a tiempo de unirse a Antonio para enfrentar a unos conspiradores que raptan y hieren al Gobernador. Antes de morir, éste firma el indulto de Diego. Llega el nuevo Gobernador, un mal tipo que se enamora de la guapa Rita, por lo que hace aprehender a su novio Antonio. Este escapa, pero Rita no lo sabe y está a punto de casarse con el Gobernador cuando Antonio aparece para rescatarla. El pueblo, cansado de los abusos del nuevo Gobernador, lo lincha. The story takes place in Mexico’s old California, where the governor, as defender of the law, readies the execution of Diego as decreed by the royal tribunal. Diego escapes and joins Antonio to fight conspirators who kidnap and wound the governor, who, before dying, pardons Diego. The new governor arrives—a bad and cruel sort who falls for beautiful Rita and jails her boyfriend Antonio. Antonio escapes but Rita doesn’t know it and is about to be forced to marry the governor when Antonio arrives to rescue her. The townspeople, tired of the abuses of the new governor, unite and lynch him.
