Editorial Reviews

Album Description
When the band was asked to describe the period after ''Lesser Matters'' we got this reply: Ideology, Amaterurism. Hype. Anst. Touring. USA. XL Recordings. Shelflife. England. ''Get a drummer!''. Fighting. Holland. Beligum. France. Spain. Italy. Germany. Angst. Euphoria. Mitt Sista Liv. Pary. Sonic. NME. Digfi. Work. Friends. Enimies. Separation. Unemployment. Money. Poverty. Reecord label. Fighting. Sophia Coppola. Spring. Summer. Autumn. Winter. Björnstorp. Winter. Malmo. Stockholm. Art. Pop music. ''Pet Grief'' is a completely different album than the debut "Lesser matters". Still, you'll hear from the very first chord that you're listening to The Radio Dept. The mood is darker, more epic, grander and even more beautiful than ever. ''Pet Grief'' is the best songs Pet Shop Boys never wrote and the album you'd hoped My Bloody Valentine did after ''Loveless''. The key to what makes it so special, what makes it all sound so much like The Radio Dept. might be the ever present melancholy that permeate everything they write. LTM. 2006.

WOW...what an awesome album5
Pet Grief is an incredible album from beginning to end. In my opinion, it's best listened to in one sitting...this album is truly an experience. For those who learned of the Radio Dept. from Marie Antoinette, this cd doesn't have the songs from Marie Antoinette on it, but if you liked those songs, you should like this album too. Beautiful hazy guitars, driving rhythms, electronic warmth, and gorgeously hidden vocals make this an album like no other. Very reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine and similar bands. This is just an all around wonderful piece of work. Pick it up!

meloncholy pop at its best4
i honestly don't know what to make of the d.i.y./home computer approach to songwriting. it seems too many 'musicians' can plug their guitar or keyboard into their computers a few mouse clicks later, they've got a song--or an album for that matter. and since it's d.i.y., the 'critics' trip over themselves to declare 'the best new thing since ________.' most of the time however, it's a bunch of mindless, vapid drivel disguised as 'art.'

the first time i listened to 'pet grief,' i thought, 'here we go again--ANOTHER stephin merrit wannabee with a casio keyboard.' i have 'lesser matters,' the radio dept's first album, which is a much more guitar-centric album, and the new approach on 'pet grief' surprised me. and i listened to the first three or four tracks, i realized this wasn't, after all, another cheap, magnetic fields or vitesse imitation, but rather a really decent pop record. better than decent, actually. granted, it's not for everyone, but if you've an ear for great melody and interesting musical textures (it's a really fuzzy record), 'pet grief' will be a welcome addition to your cd collection. and for those of you who like comparisons, it's a little like, um, the magnetic fields meet my bloody valentine. it's easy to get lost in the sound, even if you can't really tell most of the songs apart.

standouts include, 'the worst taste in music,' 'pet grief,' 'what will give,' 'a window,' and tell. if there is a downside, it's that most of the album is pretty similar in tempo and style and some folks might not stick around for the duration of the album. but i think those folks might be rare, 'cos a great sound, no matter how long the album, is well worth the time. a really, really good record.

Incredible5
This is seriously one of the best albums I've heard in years and years...proof that big production on a record means absolutely nothing if you have brilliant songs. Packed so full with dripping, gorgeous melody that it almost makes you sick on it..like eating too much chocolate. Truly stunning, achingly beautifull and inspiring..whatever, I'm going for another listen and to float off into space!
