The most compact, full size tripod in the Manfrotto range - the 715SHB DIGI MICRO is a four-section tripod with an integral ball head with micro "dovetail" quick release plate. The ball mechanism retracts into the main shoulder casting for an even shorter folded length in transport. The leg pivot uses a unique single hinge design in aluminum, which both keeps the cross section smaller and allows the leg to fold shorter than conventional tripods. The built-in ball head allows you to adjust and set its friction so that it balances the weight of your camera without needing to lock and unlock between positions. All you have to do is point the camera and shoot. Adjustment is via a handle found on the bottom of the column; set it for your camera and forget it! If you prefer to lock the head for extra security, just turn the handle one more time. Despite the reduced size, there's been no compromise on stability. Head movements: pan 360? / tilt +90? -90?.

Manufacturer Description
The Bogen-Manfrotto 715SHB is an ultra-compact tripod that can be carried in your briefcase, backpack or camera bag, traveling with you where other tripods would be left at home. The new 715SHB comes with a micro "dovetail" quick release plate. Designed for the new compact digital and conventional point and shoot cameras, the 715SHB features a shorter center column and folded length of just under 14 inches.
Manfrotto engineers were careful not to compromise stability for size and weight reduction. This was achieved with two engineering breakthroughs. First, the leg pivot was re-designed with a unique single hinge allowing the leg to fold shorter than conventional designs. Secondly, an integral ballhead is recessed into the main shoulder casting for transport.
But that's not all! This compact ballhead allows a preset but adjustable tension to be set so that all you have to do is point the camera and shoot. No more locking off handles before you take that shot! This adjustment is done with a handle found on the bottom of the column, set it for your camera and forget it, then just aim and shoot. If you want to lock it down, just turn the handle further and it will lock off the head. The 715SHB also features quick-action leg locks for fast set-up and breakdown, and an innovative three faceted center column design prevents any column rotation.
Features include:
- Leg sections use three-faceted tubing for greater anti-torsional resistance.
- Compact yet solidly-built three-way head allows versatile use with both photo and video cameras. The short pan bar helps keep movements smooth.
- Part of the DIGI series of lightweight, compact supports for small digital point-and-shoot cameras.
- Anti-rotation tubing and leg collars make for a tripod that's easier and faster to open, position and close. Manfrotto uses several different types of anti-rotation system -- on Magfiber and Digi series tripods, the elliptical or three-faceted shape of the concentric tubes means they cannot rotate, while on round-tubed tripods small protrusions down the length of the tube keep sections perfectly aligned.
- Materials, design and construction techniques have been carefully selected to help save weight without sacrificing stability or strength.
- Tripod with built-in head -- unlike most Manfrotto models, this tripod is pre-fitted with an unremovable head. This ensures compatibility and keeps weight and size to a minimum, but means the head cannot be interchanged in the future.
- The rubber feet on DIGI series tripods are angled for a larger, more stable point of contact with the ground.
- The DIGI design uses a single-sided pivot between the tripod leg and the shoulder casting to keep the tripod's cross section even more compact and to reduce overall weight.
- The "dovetail" camera plate is Manfrotto's most compact quick release system, suitable for compact up to light SLR cameras. Its advantage is that it is pushed inwards and upwards on the tripod head, ensuring a rock-solid grip.
- The features of this product make it ideal for both photographic and video applications
- Three separate axes of movement -- panoramic rotation, front-back tilt and side tilt.
- By keeping the head and camera mounting plate as low as possible, the camera is kept safely closer to the tripod's center of gravity for more stable support.

Compact, well-built, good value
In searching for a camera tripod, I had just a few criteria. It had to be lightweight, adjustable in size, and pretty small when collapsed. This tripod would be used for posed family pictures, as well as outdoor photography on motorcycle trips. The 715SHB is the best fit that I could find.
I use a Canon S3IS, which makes a good package with this tripod. It folds down small enough to fit in my cycle tank bag with room to spare. The legs can adapt to any terrain, and the adjustable head is great for fine tuning your setup. The center post can be turned upside down to allow great closeups of smaller objects.
Now the negatives. The legs take a little long to set up. I saw on a few other tripods a twist lock type leg, which is faster. However, the difference is about 30 seconds, not long enough to be a major problem, just a minor concern. The other thing to keep in mind is that this tripod is not designed to support a large, SLR type camera, especially with long lenses attached. This is not a problem for me with my camera, just something I felt I should mention.
Overall, a nice tripod that fits my needs very well.
Excellent tripod!
I have a great full-size tripod (Manfrotto 3001D) but needed something smaller for travel. I have a 400D w/battery grip and my longest lens is the Canon 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS. Even though this tripod is not rated for such a heavy combination, it is barely up to the task. When fully loaded with my 70-300 I have to crank the ball head pretty tight, and it seems a bit precarious, but it is able to support the weight. With a smaller lens like my Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 I'm not nervous at all. Of course it isn't rock solid like my 3001D, but I didn't expect it to be. Also, the carry case is great and even fits my 3001D if I have the head stick out. Highly recommended.
Excellent compact tripod for small cameras
This tripod is very well made, sturdy and easy to setup. The small size makes it great for carrying in a backpack.
It works very well for small compact digital cameras. The ballhead does not need tightening every time you position it which is a handy feature.
It has the quality I expected from Bogen.
