Huge price premium for Firewire
I have had a 380n Sony UX PC for the past year, and love it (after removing all the crapware and reverting to XP). I bought the far cheaper Sony external DVD burner with the USB2 connection for maybe $90 and it works great. No need for this unit and its Firewire connection unless you really want Firewire.
Ridiculously Expensive
As with most things Sony, this drive is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to price. Hence, the two stars.
Yes, it would be convenient to have a R/W drive, but I have purchased a CD drive that I write to on my PC and then read from on the Vaio. I can also use a USB host link or upload to my web server and then download to the Sony. However, when it comes to purchasing new programs, the best way is to download the program rather than getting it off a disc.
Just some things to consider before you spend this kind of money on an external portable drive. There's also a $350 extended life battery, a case that isn't as good as the one that came with the Vaio, an external keyboard, a cordless mouse, and a four port USB hub you can purchase. The cordless mouse is great; the hub is useful; the keyboard isn't terrific. And I mention this because, if you bought all this stuff - aside from the $1,000 you could spend -- you might as well go to a V505EX because your mini-computer is now going to take up more space than a 10" laptop.

Excellent product.
Just one miss.
The manual only state how to connect, but with the UX280P the dock station have to be plugged on the wall power. Not a word about it.
