Glière is from the Russian school of Borodin, Tchaikovsky, Arensky, Scriabin, and Taneyev--the Moscow Conservatoire--where the theory of quartet writing was based upon Beethoven.
Two tasty Belle Époque quartets: Op. 2, A-major (1900) and Op. 20, g-minor (1905) feature nice part-writing, extended andantes (:10+mins), and Russian, Ukrainian, and Asiatic flavours.
World premiere recordings on Hungaroton manufactured in Austria, 2006.
