Classic live album by Pete Townshend
Embarking on a solo tour after "White City" this album captures Pete and his top notch band performing live in Brixton, England. The CD has been remastered with bonus tracks "Magic Bus" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" both terrific additions to the orignal release. The album features Townshend covering material from throughout his career with The Who with two tracks from his albums "Empty Glass" and "All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes". There is also a spirited take on the English Beat's "Save It For Later" (the studio version of the song shows up as a bonus track on the remastered "White City").
The CD has been reissued exactly as the original vinyl edition was--with no lyric sheet or notes about the album beyond credits. I mention this because the sticker on the original release misleading suggests that there is a lyric booklet inside. There isn't. This is the only place to get Pete's classic song "After the Fire" which he gave to Roger Daltry to record for his solo album "Under A Raging Moon". While I like Daltry's version Pete's version is the definitive one for me.
David Gilmour plays as a guest guitarist and lets rip on "I Put a Spell on You". Still a terrific album but I had hoped for some sleeve notes discussing the genesis of the concert, the performances, etc.
pete townshend live at brixton
when they remastered this i wish they had included the complete concert with songs such as "i am an animal" from "Empty Glass" lulckily i taped the concert when it was televised, now if they would only release the DVD. David Gilmore appears as a guest on this album and does a fine job.
Great live cd!
Pete in top form here, very underrated cd .My only bad thing to say about this cd is that it has no listing of the musicians on it.
