Newcomer Owen arrives at his debut with a passel of co-writes with top Nashville tunesmiths Brett James and Casey Beathard (as well as eight with his producer, Jimmy Ritchey), and has enjoyed opening tour slots for Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley. That means his label expects big things. The Florida native hits the usual radio-ready topics--the bikini stirrings of "Something About a Woman," the drinking-her-off-my-mind pain of "The Bottle and Me." But balancing the good-time single "Yee Haw" is the affecting and well-crafted title tune--which revolves around the poor judgment of youth and the desire to live a better life--and the serious "Ghosts," an alcoholic's confession of regret and resolve. With his Southern-everyman drawl and standard-issue Haggard vocal stylings, Owen will live or die by his songs. How well he can follow this up should tell the tale. --Alanna Nash

Fantastic First CD
This is a fantastic cd ..the fun songs are great...his voice is great on the ballads..Ghosts is my favorite... he should go far with this cd
"SOLD" on his advance music review
I had the privilege of hearing all but one song on this album as a survey from an advance music promotion. I loved it immediately, and my response then was, "I will purchase this album as soon as it's released! I LOVE it!" Well, it was released today, and it's in rightful spot in my Cd player. "Yee Haw" is currently getting a lot of air-play on the radio, but he has not even scratched the surface as far as great radio releases are concerned. A personal favorite is "Startin' With Me", but it's really hard to choose just a few songs. Although I was not even aware of "Jake Owens" before the song "Yee Haw" hit the radio waves, I'm a fan now. This guy is going somewhere in country music! Welcome, Jake, you're in good company! I highly recommend his music!
Good Young Performer
Jake Owen could very well be one of the best new young country singers I've heard in a while. This DVD is loaded with new upbeat music.
