Customer Reviews

Great Classic set to own5
This set has 5 of the original Christmas classics.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
Frosty the Snowman
The Little Drummer Boy
Frosty Returns

I like 4 out of the 5. I would rather of had Frosty's Winter Wonderland than Frosty Returns. Frosty Returns is below the quality of the other 4 on this set. Frosty's Winter Wonderland is a much better match to the quality of the other videos to this set.

Otherwise this set is worth the money. My kids love watching the classics I grew up with.

The Shows: Perfect. Making me sit through 8 minutes of useless previews: Criminal3
Anybody who has ever seen any of the television shows contained in this set knows how cheesily good they are. It's not like I'm giving you information you don't already have. If this set was rated just on the merits of the content, five stars without a doubt.

However, making me sit through eight minutes of previews...not even previews...make that eight minutes of "behind the scenes" of some completely unrelated cartoon, complete with interviews, is absolutely insulting. I understand that the $5.99 DVD's at Wal-Mart are going to have previews, but even those allow you to bypass them with the menu button. Not here. Fortunately, this is just on the first dvd (Rudolph).

Whoever included the forced "behind the scenes" preview should be ashamed. This is a nicely boxed, very well executed collection of Christmas television shows, and tacking on a commercial to the front is just insane. How insulting!

Great Shows, But I'm a Little Bit Disappointed4
I got this, ahem, for my daughter. Wink wink. So, my daughter (3 years old) and I sat down and watched Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Comin' to Town, and The Little Drummer Boy. All were good, just as I remember them from so long ago. One thing that stood out to me is that even though these shows, for the most part, are about Santa, Rudolph, and yes, a cricket, they still mention the true meaning of Christmas. I found this refreshing in a day and age where the only time you hear 'Jesus Christ' is when someone stubs a toe, gets mad a you, or something similar.

After we finished watching them, I decided to watch the special features. I'm a DVD nut, so I always watch them. My daughter was just along for the ride. So, I started watching the Destiny's Child music video. That's where things went bad.

Now, don't get me wrong, Destiny's Child music is good. I just think they need some help with their wardrobe. While we were watching the video, the little claymation singers, dressed like ski bunnies, went outside in the snow and danced around, then flung off their ski clothes to reveal the trashy, streetcorner outfits they wear in real life. I was horrified, to say the least. The last thing I want me 3 year old to see is something like this, and think it's okay to dress like someone you'd find on a streetcorner. When are people going to stand up and say "enough!", and stop rewarding the Britney Spears', and the Christina Aquileras for dressing, and acting like prostitutes. I docked the box set a star because of this apparent lack of judgment on the part of the animators. Very disappointing.
