A real swiss army knife at a bargain price
The drive does everything I could want it to do. I've successfully burned a dozen generic 4.7 GB and a dozen Verbatim 8.5 GB DVDs without any coasters. This drive was an upgrade from a Plextor Preimium CD burner that I had for a few years that I loved, but it was time for a DVD writer. I have not tried the lightscribe feature yet, though given the added cost for the disks, and the unavailability of 8.5 GB lightscribe disks, I find a good old fashioned permanent marker does the trick.
I'm pleased with the Nero 7 Essentials bundle that comes with it and used it for all my burning. While Nero Essentials has tons of functionality, I have a few more requests: I wish I could burn digital music files to DVD from a list within Windows Media Player 11. That "nice to have" aside, the bundled DVD video software is pretty impressive, as is the rest of the suite.
I shopped around and found this 20x model at a few places, and Amazon had the best price along with free shipping. I highly recommend this.
Easy to install and works fine
This drive installed easily and works fine under Linux without any proprietary drivers. I have no complaints, though I have only used it a few times so far.
Great product!
I've had this product for a few months now, and it works exactly as expected. Was easy to install. Does a great job burning (haven't had any coasters yet and is fast). Haven't tried the lightscribe feature yet, but I don't really have any desire to, as writing on my DVDs is easier and the lightscribe DVDs are a lot more expensive. Definitely recommend this product, especially for the price!
