After her parents are killed by the psychotic BASKETWEAVE, 10-year-old Ally Van Duren is committed to an insane asylum. Ten years later she is still there, now a beautiful young woman who is terrorized by a sadistic nurse. Like many patients at the asylum, Ally is forced to take massive doses of experimental drugs developed by the manager of the institution, the secretive Dr. Emil Stravinsky. As she consumes more and more of these drugs, she becomes lost in a hallucinogenic dream world where she encounters her horrifying past, present and future.

Customer Reviews

One of the strangest movies I have ever seen !2
There is really no other way that I could describe this movie. It starts off already in a very strange manner, when a family father is sitting in his home reading something, and his daugther keeps telling him that someone is knocking at the front door. When he finally gets up to open the door a psychotic killer named Basketweave assaults and kills him and his wife, only the child daughter Ally escapes, by hiding in a large basket ? If this might sound strange to you, wait until you have seen the rest of the film, and believe me here it gets to be really weird.

Something like a couple years go by, and then all of a sudden we find the small daughter Ally, inside a mental institution, where she is continually terrorized by an excessively cruel nurse, but as if this type of torture isen't enough, also the chief Doctor at the institution uses new and never tested drugs on his patients with absolutely horrible results. What really defies believe is that he is not doing it because he is obsessed with cruelty, but rather because he actually hopes that his drug tests will benefit his patients. This is mindboggling since he uses it over and over again, often killing his patients in horrible ways.

The movie simply goes on along this weird path, that dosen't seem to make an sense or establish any connection with the original murder scene, except that for some strange reason, the psychotic killer Basketweave is actually one of the chief Doctors asisstances. And this despite the fact that years ago, he treated him and found him to be extremely dangerous. Like I said this movie just dosen't make sense, it seems often more like a mystical dream gone haywire.

The last few minutes of the DVD are totally out of line with the original events, here we see Basketweave as a kind and loving father with Ally as his daugther, and to top it off the cruel nurse is his wife, and thus Allys apparently kind mother. Also we are left completely in the dark about all of the characters motivations, there isen't a single explanation why any of the people are acting the way they are, especially the cruel ones !

All of this was just too much for me to take; I mean give me a serious break, this is not a real story or plot, but rather a totally messed up thrown together hodge podge low budget movie, that just always seems to defy making any sense. Or who knows? maybe this thing will only make sense when one is on some serious drugs. But even then, this can never cover-up or compensate for the fact, that the acting was downright horribly amateur like, the whole film very low budget, which was also very evident, and that real suspense was hardly ever there.

I was actually thinking to give this DVD a one star rating, but decided to add another, not because I found anything to be particularly redeeming about this movie, but simply because it is somehow almost funny, in its absolutely incompetent ways. Thus, one could view it as the best way of how NOT to make a mystical suspense typ of Thriller. In other words, it is a kind of guideline of what not to do to a movie of that genre, lol.

Thus, it is advisable to avoid this one, virtually at all cost, unless your into seriously strange and demented movies.
