A nice sampling of Maori songs
I quite enjoy this collection of Maori songs. It is filled with mostly traditionally sung music rather than the pop style jazzed up versions I have found on most other recordings. It is also sung by a group rather than an individual. This adds to my appreciation of the Maori culture and tradition as I find the more modern versions to be lacking the same power and spirit behind them that I feel is quite present in this more traditional style.
World Music
No culture is an island and foreign influences have reached the hidden places of the World. Though recording and performing in Australia, the group Te Runga Rawa, even including Amazing Grace, recorded an interesting cd of maori music and, inspite of what above said, worth buying by those interested on this culture.
