Enhanced Disco Classic
Now enhanced by extra tracks, Love For Sale is a really excellent album of 1970s dance/pop music. Besides the two massive hits: the dramatic story song Ma Baker and the hypnotic pulsating Belfast, it also contains other gems like the evocative Plantation Boy with its wistful lyrics and compelling reggae beat, a good enough version of CCR's Have You Ever Seen The Rain? and the title track Love For Sale.
Eurodisco was the sound ruling the airwaves and the dancefloors in 1977 and 1978. Although it gathered a lot of flack from music critics back then, Love For Sale's not a bad album at all whether you look at it from a pop or dance perspective. Unlike today's techno music, these tuneful songs provide sheer listening pleasure while at the same time being the perfect party music. It has also aged surprisingly well, anytime as good as the music of Abba!
The Magic of Boney M

Disco Nights, Vol. 3: The Best of EuroDisco
Ageless!
I am from Russia, and Boney M was hugely popular back in 1978-1981.
It was so popular, it started to feel worn-out in music snob circles.
But now, looking back, there seems to be more in Boney M that met the eye. The genius of the producer Frank Farian was not only in creating impeccable, pleasant, melodic music. He let the performer's ethnic backgrounds to flourish and merged it into mainstream euro disco. And there was some complexity to the arrangements, there was some substance to the lyrics. So whatever was the fad of the time disappeared, but the substance persevered.
It is only when Boney M started to lose their ethnic flavor (no doubt due to the changing trends) they became like everybody else and so they lost their unique appeal. But the first 3 albums are their best and ageless.
